S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Xbox Controller Deadzones: What Has Changed

GSC later documented gamepad deadzone and aim improvements, but its Patch 2.0.5 note limits the overly sensitive stick fix to PC—not confirmed Xbox consoles.

GSC acknowledged complaints about overly sensitive Xbox controller sticks in November 2024, and later updates documented improvements to gamepad deadzones and curves. The evidence is platform-specific, though: the later note explicitly fixing overly sensitive sticks in Patch 2.0.5 applies to PC, not confirmed Xbox consoles.

What happened with Xbox controller deadzones?

Players reported that slight stick movements could cause unwanted movement or aiming in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Windows Central reported on November 21, 2024, that GSC Game World had acknowledged the issue and said: “We are working on this issue already. Thank you so much for the feedback.” Windows Central’s report describes the complaints as stick drift and excessive sensitivity; it does not establish how many players were affected.

Which updates addressed controller input?

Patch 1.1: deadzones and curves

GSC’s official Patch 1.1 notes say the studio “Investigated, and applied further improvements to dead zones and curves for gamepad movement, aiming and camera controls for a more smooth and controllable experience using sticks on controller.” The notes also list a separate fix for an Xbox X/S controller that did not work over Bluetooth. These are distinct changes: the Bluetooth fix concerns connectivity, while the deadzone and curve improvements concern stick input.

Update 1.7: controller aim

The official Update 1.7: Expedition notes list “Controller aim improvements” among the highlights. They do not identify those improvements as a specific fix for the original Xbox deadzone complaint, nor do they specify that the changes applied only to Xbox.

Patch 2.0.5: an expressly PC fix

GSC’s Patch 2.0.5 announcement on Steam says: “Fixed the issue with the too sensitive left and right sticks on the controllers on the PC platform.” The platform qualification matters: this note is evidence of a PC fix, not confirmation that the same fix reached Xbox consoles.

What can Xbox players try?

If your character or aim moves without an intentional input, first distinguish a controller hardware problem from the game’s response to stick movement. The available reporting supports these options, but none should be mistaken for a guaranteed repair to the game’s Xbox deadzone behavior.

  • Use the game’s later controller updates. Patch 1.1 documents broader deadzone and curve improvements, and Update 1.7 lists aim improvements. The notes do not establish that every Xbox player’s sensitivity issue was eliminated.
  • Try a Hall effect controller for possible physical drift. Windows Central names the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro and GameSir G7 as examples that may bypass some stick-drift symptoms. The same report cautions that these controllers still felt overly sensitive in the game, so this is not a confirmed fix for game-side sensitivity.
  • Use keyboard and mouse on Xbox if you prefer to avoid controller input. This is an alternative input method mentioned in the report; it avoids using the controller rather than correcting its deadzones.
