When did SCUM leave Early Access?
SCUM launched into Steam Early Access on August 29, 2018, and reached version 1.0 on June 17, 2025, according to its Steam store listing and the June 17, 2025 1.0 patch-notes event. Those dates put its Early Access run just under seven years.

There is a discrepancy in the announcement: Gamepires’ June 6, 2025 release headline gives June 17, while the release body says June 19. Steam records June 17 as the release date, and the 1.0 patch-notes event is dated June 17, so that is the supported launch date. Read Gamepires’ announcement via Games Press.
What did Gamepires announce for version 1.0?
Gamepires described SCUM as a PvPvE open-world survival game set on an island, where players are prisoners in a televised survival event. The publisher said players could go solo or form squads, and that servers could host up to 64 players. That capacity is the figure in the June 2025 announcement; it should not be read as a guarantee that every server mode or current setting uses that player limit.

The announcement also promised major graphical improvements and significant gameplay features for the 1.0 update. Those are the publisher’s descriptions of the launch, not a feature-by-feature independent audit. Gamepires said the game had received 258 updates, tweaks, and gameplay improvements since its 2018 Early Access start; that is the publisher’s count at announcement time.
In announcing the date, Gamepires general manager Sven Folkesson said: “We’re so excited to confirm the 1.0 launch date for SCUM during tonight’s Summer Game Fest,”

What modes does Steam list?
Steam lists SCUM as supporting single-player, MMO, online PvP, and online co-op. These are the modes and features identified on the store page; the 64-player figure above comes from Gamepires’ launch announcement.

A later example of post-launch support is Gamepires’ Steam listing for the October 5, 2026 update, “SCUM: INTO THE WILD – October Update | 1.3.4.0.160241.” Its listed additions include new fishing quests, returning birds, clothing craftable from mutant animal materials, an underground TEC1 Research Facility, expanded cooking, and an Apex Arena Deathmatch. This update is one dated example, not a complete account of the game’s current content or support history.
