The figures published by Insider Gaming and Video Games Chronicle put Persona 5 Royal at the top with 7.25 million units, followed by Sonic Frontiers at 4.57 million. These are reported presentation figures—not independently audited or confirmed current lifetime totals.
What was reportedly exposed
On June 21, 2025, Insider Gaming reported that a Sega Sammy annual management meeting presentation attempted to obscure sales figures with a gray overlay, but that the underlying PDF text remained accessible. Video Games Chronicle reported the following day that sales numbers had mistakenly been included in a presentation document. The accounts describe a disclosure mishap; neither establishes Sega Sammy’s intent beyond what was reported.
The figures cover six fiscal years, FY2020 to FY2025, and 11 games. The reporting attributes the totals and annual figures below to Sega Sammy’s presentation. No official statement from a named Sega representative about this specific disclosure is established in the cited coverage.
Reported totals for the 11 games
The table ranks the reported FY2020–FY2025 unit totals from highest to lowest. Persona 5 Royal includes its remaster, and Shin Megami Tensei V is grouped with Vengeance.

How the annual sales table reads
Insider Gaming also published annual unit figures. The values below are in millions of units, except where a figure is written as a raw count for clarity. A dash preserves the source table’s convention for years without a reported count; it does not prove that a game made no sales in that year.

What the numbers can—and cannot—tell you
They show cumulative units and yearly trajectories
The totals are accumulated over several fiscal years, not a single launch window. The annual figures show that continued sales can materially shape a game’s total: Persona 5 Royal, for example, is listed at 1.75 million units in FY2025 after 1.60 million in FY2024. A title’s cumulative rank is therefore not a direct measure of its first-year result.
They do not establish revenue or profitability
The coverage provides unit counts, not a consistent breakdown by price, revenue, profit, region, platform, or sales channel. The figures alone cannot show how much money each game generated, what it cost to make or market, or how discounts affected sales. Comparing the totals is useful for unit volume, but not enough to declare a franchise commercially healthy or weak.

Edition grouping and reporting definitions matter
At least two entries combine editions: Persona 5 Royal includes its remaster, while Shin Megami Tensei V includes Vengeance. Sega Sammy’s older FY2021/3 presentation says full-game unit sales exclude free downloads and notes that FY2020/3 figures were revised after a subsegment classification change. That document provides historical context for Sega Sammy’s reporting, but it does not verify that the later FY2020–FY2025 table uses identical definitions in every respect.

Persona 5 Royal leads the list at 7.25 million reported units, with Sonic Frontiers second at 4.57 million. The gap establishes a difference in reported unit totals, not why either game sold as it did. Release timing, editions included in a row, and later-year sales all matter when interpreting the table.

The three Sonic titles listed—Sonic Frontiers, Team Sonic Racing, and Sonic Superstars—add up to 11.57 million units. That is an arithmetic sum of their reported totals, not a separate figure published by Sega Sammy; it also describes only those three games, not the entire Sonic franchise.
