Games that make you feel hunted
Alien: Isolation
Choose Alien: Isolation for the tension of being pursued rather than for a promise that it will scare everyone most. Amanda Ripley is stalked through the Sevastopol station by a Xenomorph, while dangerous inhabitants and malfunctioning androids add other threats. GameSpot describes the pursuit, and PC Gamer notes that the alien searches the station for the player. The core appeal is the pressure of hiding and trying to stay ahead of a hunter.

Amnesia: The Bunker
Amnesia: The Bunker turns vulnerability into a resource-management problem. Set in a World War I bunker, it has a monster hunting the player, objectives that can vary between playthroughs, and limited ammunition and supplies. PC Gamer also describes fuel for the generator and environmental hazards as part of the pressure. It suits players who would rather weigh risks and conserve resources than fight every threat freely.
Story-led psychological and narrative horror
Silent Hill 2 Remake
For an eerie mystery with psychological horror at its center, Silent Hill 2 Remake follows James Sunderland as he searches for answers after receiving a mysterious letter from his dead wife. PlayStation describes the story premise; Konami lists the game for PS5 and PC storefronts, including Steam, Epic, and GOG. Those storefronts and platform listings may change, so confirm the edition and current availability where you plan to play.

- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Alan Wake II
Alan Wake II tells its horror story through two protagonists in different situations: FBI agent Saga Anderson and horror novelist Alan Wake. PlayStation’s guide describes their connection through a mystery involving darkness and a rewritten reality. It is a sequel to the original Alan Wake, so newcomers may find a recap useful before starting if they want the earlier story context.
Supernatural horror in an unusual workplace
The Mortuary Assistant
The Mortuary Assistant makes embalming work part of its horror loop: players complete mortuary tasks, identify demons, and try to banish them, while story elements unfold across multiple playthroughs. Steam’s listing says the game contains disturbing imagery, drug references, moments of self-harm, and strong language; screen those details if they may affect your choice. Steam describes 10+ hours of content, which is not a fixed completion time for every player.
Rank #2
- A dark, enthralling 4-5 hour narrative to keep you hooked and guessing until the end. Gorgeous visuals as you traverse numerous and diverse environments, presented with a cinematic, film-like aesthetic. Ranged and melee combat with upgradeable weapons to help you survive your nightmarish journey.
- A stellar voice cast, starring Valerie Rose Lohman (What Remains of Edith Finch, Wolfenstein: Youngblood), Jonah Scott (Dying Light 2: Stay Human, Date Everything), and Aleks Le (Persona 3: Reload, Marvel Rivals, Ghost of Yotei).
- A beautifully dynamic and haunting soundtrack composed and performed by Jacob Noska, and Jonah Henthorne: members of the band Auric Echoes.
- The puzzles you encounter are more than your standard key hunt. Project Songbird rewards those with an eye for detail, making each puzzle a challenge of creativity and wits.
- The combat of Project Songbird offers a variety of approaches inspired by the classics of the survival horror genre. Melee and gunplay is slow and weighty, and ammo is incredibly scarce. However, combat isn't your only option, as you have a multitude of tools at your disposal to aid in sneaking past any creatures that wish to do you harm.
Survival horror in space and in a familiar series
Dead Space (2023)
Dead Space (2023) is a sci-fi survival-horror remake of the 2008 game, rebuilt for modern platforms. It is the pick here for players who want space-based body horror rather than a haunted-town mystery or workplace setting. GameSpot lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC; check the current retailer or storefront listing to confirm the platform, edition, and availability for your region.
Resident Evil Village
If you want to continue from Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village is a natural next choice: PlayStation says its story begins a few years after that game. The Winters’ Expansion adds further story content centered on the Winters family, according to PlayStation. Check the specific edition listing to see whether the content you want is included.

- Cronos: The New Dawn is a brutal third-person survival horror where you fight for the future by salvaging the past. Burn monsters before they merge. Extract souls from the living. Adapt or die.
- Set in a grim world where Eastern European brutalism meets retro-futurist technology, Cronos: The New Dawn lets you experience a gripping story that straddles the line between past and future.
- The enemies you’ll encounter are nightmarish creatures, born from the remnants of humanity – defeating them will require you to make full use of your arsenal.
- The creatures you kill won’t stay dead for long. Fallen enemies can be absorbed by others - through a grotesque process called Merging - to become faster, tougher, and far deadlier.
- This physical edition of Cronos: The New Dawn comes with bonus in-game content and a set of collectible stickers.
How to decide which horror game to play
- For pursuit: Start with Alien: Isolation if being stalked and hiding is the appeal.
- For scarcity and vulnerability: Try Amnesia: The Bunker if limited supplies and environmental risk sound more compelling than open combat.
- For a story-first experience: Consider Silent Hill 2 Remake for psychological mystery or Alan Wake II for a two-protagonist narrative; remember that Alan Wake II is a sequel.
- For supernatural workplace horror: Choose The Mortuary Assistant, after checking its content notes.
- For sci-fi body horror or a series continuation: Look at Dead Space (2023) or Resident Evil Village, respectively.
- Before you buy: Match the game to your console or PC and confirm the edition and current regional listing. Platform availability is not established for every title in this selection.
These are different answers to “scariest games to play,” not entries on a universal scare scale. The right choice depends on which kind of tension you want and how much context, resource management, or content screening matters to you.
