Mass Pike Interchange and Powering Up are separate Fallout 4 destinations: the interchange is a Gunner-held location to explore, while Powering Up is an Institute main quest. The available walkthroughs do not connect the quest to the interchange.
Finding Mass Pike Interchange
Mass Pike Interchange is a Commonwealth location occupied by Gunners. Its elevated freeway sections are reached by two elevators: one to the north and another beneath the central structure, near a Gunner camp. The northern elevator has no nearby adversaries in the cited map guide, making it a possible approach for players who want to avoid an immediate fight. The central approach brings you closer to hostiles.

The lower section contains several Gunners and an Assaultron; the upper section has fewer enemies. Exact encounters can vary with game state, so treat this as a general layout rather than a guaranteed enemy roster. The Fallout Wiki’s Mass Pike Interchange entry describes the location, its enemies, and notable features; the map-guide excerpt distinguishes the two elevator approaches.
What to look for
- A power armor station and a weapons workbench are among the location’s notable facilities.
- Loot includes Grognak the Barbarian issue #7. The cited reference does not establish guaranteed placement across all game states.
No verified route from a particular starting point or universal enemy levels are established here, so use the elevators and central structure as landmarks rather than relying on a precise route or level prediction.

Completing the Institute quest Powering Up
Powering Up is an Institute main quest. Its objectives take you from a recorded announcement to Diamond City Radio, then back to the Institute for reactor activation and a Directorate meeting. It does not take place at Mass Pike Interchange.
- Speak with Father. Begin the quest by talking to him at the Institute.
- Record the announcement. Follow the quest objective to record the speech.
- Reconfigure Diamond City Radio. Go to Diamond City Radio and install the three transmitter components. Installing all three completes the transmitter reconfiguration objective.
- Return to the Institute. Follow the objective back to the Institute after the radio work.
- Activate the Institute reactor. Complete the reactor objective at the Institute.
- Attend the Directorate meeting. The final listed objective is to attend the meeting.
The quest walkthrough lists this objective sequence. Follow the in-game markers for the exact rooms and interactions; the available reference does not provide a more detailed room-by-room route.

Which one should you do?
Choose Mass Pike Interchange if you want to explore a Gunner-held site and search its facilities and loot. Choose Powering Up if you are progressing through the Institute main story. They are not competing stages of one task: one is a location, the other a quest, and the cited references do not establish a story or gameplay link between them.
