Start by identifying what kind of lag you are seeing
Lag can describe delayed inputs, uneven or stuttering gameplay, or a PC that cannot render the game smoothly. These symptoms can have different causes, so note what happens and whether it occurs only in online matches or also in offline play.

Check the match indicators
Tekken 7’s online battle screen includes Ping/RTT, Delay Frames, and Rollback Frames, added in the game’s official update information. Observe these during a problem match and note what changes when the game feels delayed. They are useful observations, not a complete diagnosis of who or what caused the issue. Test the connection before changing hardware
Compare Wi-Fi with wired Ethernet
If the PC uses Wi-Fi, try Ethernet if practical and compare the same kind of online play. Bandai Namco recommends a wired connection for online play and warns that wireless play may cause delay or stuttering. A cable is a useful test, not a guaranteed cure for every connection problem. Bandai Namco tournament rules have also required wired Ethernet for competitors in a specific online event. That is an event rule, not a general consumer connection threshold or proof that a new cable will resolve household network problems. TEKKEN Spain Championship rules and regulations
Reduce competing network activity
Check whether other PCs, consoles, phones, or devices are using the connection heavily while you play. Bandai Namco’s support guidance recommends checking other devices’ network use. Restart and review network-related settings
- Close other applications. Bandai Namco recommends closing other apps that may be affecting play. Reopen only what you need for the test. Bandai Namco support
- Restart Tekken 7. Retry after restarting the game, as suggested in the support FAQ. Bandai Namco support
- Restart communication equipment. Restart the router or other communication device, then test again. The support advice recommends restarting communication equipment; it does not establish that a router upgrade is needed. Bandai Namco support
- Review VPN and security-tool settings. Check whether a VPN or network security tool is affecting the connection. Bandai Namco advises reviewing these settings; it does not recommend broadly disabling firewall or security protections. Bandai Namco support
Check whether the PC is struggling locally
If the game also stutters offline, or the PC seems unable to run it smoothly, try adjusting Tekken 7’s graphics settings and compare the computer with Steam’s published specifications. A local performance problem needs a different diagnosis from an issue that appears only during online play. Steam lists DirectX 11 and a broadband internet connection for both configurations. If the problem continues
Keep a short record of the evidence you observed so the next troubleshooting step is based on a comparison rather than guesswork:
- What the Ping/RTT, Delay Frames, and Rollback Frames showed during affected matches.
- Whether changing from Wi-Fi to Ethernet changed the symptoms.
- Whether other devices or applications were using the connection.
- Whether the game also stuttered outside online matches.
These observations do not identify the cause on their own, but they make it easier to distinguish a connection-related pattern from local PC performance trouble.
