Work through the checks below in order: close nonessential background apps and overlays, confirm DirectX 11 is available, then verify the game files. Use the cache step only if Rocket League reports a runtime or NTDLL error. These are troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes; the right branch depends on your error message, launcher, and PC.
1. Close overlays and other background apps
Epic’s PC crash troubleshooting guide starts with disabling mods or third-party apps and closing background applications. Exit nonessential programs, including overlays, then try launching Rocket League again. If it opens, reopen programs one at a time to see whether a particular conflict returns; do not assume an app is responsible without testing.
2. Check DirectX 11
Epic states that “DirectX 11 is required to play Rocket League.” Epic also identifies an outdated or missing DirectX 11 installation as a possible cause of a launch crash or black screen. Confirm that DirectX 11 is installed and available on your Windows PC before moving on.
3. Verify Rocket League’s installation files
Damaged or corrupted installation files can be checked and repaired through the launcher. Epic says its verification process repairs files that differ from the expected installation and does not affect saved data.

Epic Games Launcher
- Open Epic Games Launcher and select Library.
- Find Rocket League, open its three-dot menu, and choose Manage.
- Select Verify and let the check finish before launching the game again.
Launcher labels can change. If you installed the game through Steam, use Steam’s own file-verification option instead; the Epic menu path does not apply.
4. Use the cache fix only for runtime or NTDLL errors
If the startup crash shows a runtime or NTDLL error, Epic’s error-specific guidance says the issue can indicate corrupt Rocket League save data and recommends deleting the game’s Cache folder:

Remove only the specified Cache folder, not the entire Rocket League save-data folder. If the targeted cache step does not resolve the error, Epic’s guide points to its separate new-save-data troubleshooting. Do not delete all saved data as a general startup fix.
5. Compare your PC with Epic’s published requirements
Epic’s Rocket League requirements page lists these Windows specifications. They are minimum and recommended targets, not a promise that a PC meeting them will be free of crashes.

Epic’s page does not display a publication date, so check it for current requirements and platform support rather than treating these figures as confirmation that an older operating system remains supported.
6. Try the later launch and graphics checks one at a time
If the earlier steps do not help, Epic’s crash guidance includes updating your graphics-card drivers, trying Windowed mode, forcing default settings, and performing a clean startup. Its troubleshooting overview also mentions renaming the Rocket League folder and disabling Xbox Game Bar or captures.

- Update the graphics driver using the appropriate graphics-card manufacturer’s official instructions.
- Test Windowed mode, then return to the previous mode if it makes no difference.
- Try the default game settings rather than custom launch settings.
- Test a clean startup or disable Xbox Game Bar and captures as separate checks.
- Rename the Rocket League folder only as a later troubleshooting step, and avoid deleting folders or saved data unless Epic’s instructions for your specific error call for it.
Change one setting at a time and retry the game after each change. That makes it easier to identify a successful fix and undo an unsuccessful one.

If Rocket League continues to crash on startup, collect the diagnostic evidence soon after a crash and provide it to Epic Games Support. Epic’s bug-report guidance identifies DxDiag, MSinfo, Rocket League logs, and crash dumps as useful files for investigating technical issues. A crash dump is diagnostic evidence, not by itself a diagnosis.
