The story behind the performance is striking: creator Dave Wilson said Reeves fractured his kneecap shortly before filming, yet went ahead with the shoot wearing a brace. That account comes from Wilson as quoted in a January 3, 2025 interview report; it has not been independently verified here.
What is the Armored Core episode of Secret Level called?
It is called “Asset Management,” an installment of the animated anthology series Secret Level. Reeves plays an isolated, rough-edged mech pilot on a frozen planet, sent on a mission connected to a conflict with hostile creatures. The Gizmodo report describes the character as a “junkie mech pilot” but does not give him a name.
What did Dave Wilson say about Keanu Reeves’ fractured kneecap?
In an interview with Secret Level creators Dave Wilson and Tim Miller, Gizmodo’s Isaiah Colbert reported Wilson’s account that Reeves emailed the team about a fractured kneecap roughly two weeks before filming. Wilson said Reeves had learned his lines and believed he could work in short stretches. The injury and schedule details are Wilson’s recollection as reported by Colbert, not independently confirmed production records. Read the Gizmodo report.
The production offered to adapt the character
Wilson said the team offered to keep Reeves’ brace on camera and write a limp into the character. As he put it: “Don’t worry about it. Keep the brace on. We’ll give your character a limp and a brace.”

Wilson said Reeves stayed for the shoot
Wilson recounted that Reeves ultimately filmed for 13 hours with the brace, saying, “And he shot for 13 hours straight with that brace, and he doesn’t leave set.” He also said Reeves was ill during filming: “You could tell he had a cold, so a lot of the runny nose and cough and everything—all the same thing.” These are details of Wilson’s reported account, not a general measure of filming conditions or a separately documented production log.
Why the anecdote fits the episode
“Asset Management” puts Reeves in the role of a pilot facing danger far from help. Wilson’s story adds a real-world echo: he said Reeves arrived with an injury and the production made room for it, rather than hiding it. Wilson summed up his impression with a short line: “He lives up to all that hype.” The anecdote is compelling precisely as a reported account of one production, not proof of anything beyond what Wilson said.
