That supports a dated launch-score claim—not a current rating for every platform. The available evidence does not establish which 2025 games the original comparison refers to, so it cannot confirm that Shinobi outrates any particular “best games” list.
What was Shinobi: Art of Vengeance’s Metacritic rating?
SEGA said on August 29, 2025, that Shinobi: Art of Vengeance had a Metacritic score of 90, based on the Xbox version’s score at the time. This is a dated statement from the publisher, not a guarantee that the score remains 90 or that other versions share it. SEGA’s launch announcement supplies the date and platform qualification.
Metacritic displays critic reviews and platform information on its game page. Its score can change as reviews are added, and platform aggregates may differ. Check the relevant platform page directly if you need the current figure; do not treat one platform’s score as a universal rating.
Is it higher-rated than some of 2025’s best games?
The available sources do not name the games behind that comparison, so the claim cannot be verified against specific titles. A fair comparison needs named 2025 releases and matching platform scores checked on the same date. It should also show each game’s critic-review count: an aggregate backed by a different number of reviews is useful context, not proof that one game is objectively better.

Eligibility matters too. A list of 2025 releases may handle remakes, ports, and expansions differently. Without a stated list and criteria, “some of 2025’s best games” is not a defined comparison set. The safe conclusion is narrower: SEGA reported a launch-day Xbox Metacritic score of 90; the supplied evidence does not establish which 2025 games, if any, it outrated.
What do reviews say about the game?
Metacritic’s page includes individual outlet reviews, which should not be confused with the Metascore. For example, the page lists a 92 from MeriStation, a 90 from Shacknews, and an 80 from Metro GameCentral. Those are separate publication scores, not the aggregate.

The review excerpts highlighted on the page praise combat, platforming, visual style, and the game’s connection to the older series. Visible user comments also include criticism of difficulty, depth, and art direction. These are examples of individual views, not a representative survey of all players.
