Their key bosses are Elder Jinchi, Fuban, Scorpionlord and Duskveil, and the Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast. This guide separates those area bosses from the wider roster of optional encounters, then explains how Erlang’s distinct secret-ending route fits in.
The four chapter secret areas and their bosses
“Secret boss” is a useful player shorthand, not a single confirmed in-game category. The table below uses it narrowly for the major bosses reached through four chapter secret areas; optional fights elsewhere are covered separately.
| Chapter and area | How to unlock the route | Bosses and relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Chapter 1 — Ancient Guanyin Temple | Ring all three bells in the chapter; doing so transports you to the temple. | Elder Jinchi is the area boss. After defeating him, the Fireproof Mantle can be collected from the body hanging from a tree in front of the third bell. |
| Chapter 2 — Kingdom of Sahali | Complete the Drunken Boar questline. Defeat the Tiger Vanguard in the area, then speak to the NPC on the cliff to trigger Fuban. | The Tiger Vanguard here is a separate encounter from the identically named boss at Crouching Tiger Temple. Defeating Fuban unlocks the Wind Tamer vessel. |
| Chapter 4 — Purple Cloud Mountain | Defeat Venom Daoist at Pool of Shattered Jade, then find and defeat him again at Temple of the Yellow Flower, Court of Illumination. Interact with the wall after the second fight. | The area contains Scorpionlord and Duskveil. |
| Chapter 5 — Bishui Cave | Advance the Ox’s Five Element Carts questline. | Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast is the main terminal boss. Other optional fights occur along this route and should be treated as separate encounters. |
These routes depend on actions within their chapters rather than a menu selection. The route descriptions are documented in [PowerPyx’s secret-area walkthrough].
Other optional bosses across the chapters
The four-area list is not a complete list of every hidden or optional fight. GamingBolt’s chapter-by-chapter guide identifies encounters including the following; use it as a route checklist, not as an official or guaranteed exhaustive roster.
