What changes when you forgive or punish Recluse?
The choice in Guardian’s ninth Remembrance chapter determines which brooch variant you receive. Mobalytics reports that the variants are cosmetic alternatives with identical effects. The Cracked Witch’s Brooch slowly restores nearby allies’ HP while Guardian’s Art is active, sends shockwaves when you successfully guard while the ability is active, and grants Vigor +3. Mobalytics’ Cracked Witch’s Brooch guide says the Witch’s Brooch functions the same.

Can you change the brooch later?
Mobalytics says you can exchange the brooch variants at the Collector’s Signboard for three tokens. That makes the decision reversible, according to the guide; check the current game version in case a later update changes the exchange.
Where does the choice happen?
The decision is in the final chapter of Guardian’s Remembrance. The PC Gamer Remembrances walkthrough says to read the letter, interact with the shelf in the study, then speak with Recluse about the curse on Guardian’s flock. Mobalytics describes the conversation prompt as “Are you the maker of the curse?” You then choose whether to forgive or punish her for her misdeed.

Does the choice change the story or other rewards?
PC Gamer lists the Witch’s Brooch and Guardian’s Remembrance skin among the chapter’s rewards and reports that the same rewards are earned either way. It also says Guardian ultimately forgives Recluse regardless of your decision. The available guides do not report a different build benefit or other reward for punishing her.

Choose the plain Witch’s Brooch if you prefer its appearance, or the cracked version if you prefer that look. Since the guides report matching effects and a way to exchange the versions later, neither option offers a cited gameplay advantage.
