The guides identify Seridur, who sent you after Roland, as the real vampire. Sparing Roland lets you investigate the accusation and reach the fuller quest outcome: clearing Roland’s name, joining the Order, receiving the Ring of Sunfire, and earning 250 gold for each Vampire Dust you deliver to him. Killing Roland ends the quest early; the reported reward is 250 gold from Seridur, alongside Infamy.
What happens if you kill Roland?
The quest starts in the Imperial City’s Temple District. After Ralsa Norvalo directs you to Seridur, he accuses Roland of being a vampire and asks you to kill him. If you do, the quest ends early and you return to Seridur. Game8’s 2025 guide and TheGameSlayer’s walkthrough report that Seridur pays 250 gold; both also report Infamy for this outcome. Game8’s Order of the Virtuous Blood walkthrough and TheGameSlayer’s quest guide cover this branch.
This is the shorter route, but it follows Seridur’s false accusation and gives up the rewards available through the investigation. The guides do not establish additional roleplay or faction consequences, so treat this as a comparison of the reported quest outcomes rather than a complete account of every possible game interaction.
What happens if you spare Roland?
Go to Roland’s house and follow the clue there to his cabin. Talk to him rather than attacking: he disputes Seridur’s accusation and directs you to Phintias at the First Edition. Phintias’s information leads to Memorial Cave, where you find Seridur. The walkthroughs identify Seridur as the real vampire; killing him clears Roland’s name, and Roland takes over as leader of the Order.

This investigation route offers the Ring of Sunfire, membership in the Order, and 250 gold for each Vampire Dust you bring to Roland, according to the guides. The Ring of Sunfire is described as having Resist Disease and Reflect Spell enchantments. The older walkthrough notes that the enchantment values depend on character level, so the sources do not support one fixed set of values for every player. See the GameFAQs Oblivion Remastered side-quest guide for the relevant quest passage, alongside Game8’s walkthrough.
How the two choices compare

Which route should you choose?
- For the fuller quest and its listed rewards: spare Roland, follow his lead to Phintias, then investigate Memorial Cave.
- For a deliberate roleplay choice: you can follow Seridur’s request and kill Roland, knowing the guides report an early ending, 250 gold, and Infamy.
The available guides are secondary walkthroughs, not official game documentation. They describe the Remastered quest but do not establish whether its logic or rewards differ from the original Oblivion, or whether outcomes vary by platform.
