In Hollow Knight: Silksong, the easiest place to look for an Elder Pilgrim is beside the Chapel of the Wanderer entrance in Bone Bottom. The enemy can also appear in several progression- or act-specific encounters. It is associated with Pilgrim Shawls, but the Rosary Necklace is not a direct drop: it is the reward for completing the separate Garb of the Pilgrims Wish.
Where to find an Elder Pilgrim
The locations and encounter details below are reported by the community-maintained Hollow Knight Wiki; Team Cherry has not published these encounter odds in the cited material.
Bone Bottom
Check the left side of the entrance to the Chapel of the Wanderer. The wiki reports a 1-in-3 spawn chance in Acts 1 and 2, rising to 2-in-3 in Act 3. These are the page’s reported in-game odds, not independently measured rates.
The Marrow
After acquiring Cling Grip, look for a small room near the top of the Marrow. The Elder Pilgrim there is a unique encounter and does not respawn.

Blasted Steps
In Act 3, an Elder Pilgrim is present in Lumble the Lucky’s room until the Lost Garmond fight.
Near Shakra
There is also a chance to encounter an Elder Pilgrim fighting Shakra outside the Shellwood exit from Bellhart or outside the Greymoor exit.

How to recognize and handle the encounter
The Elder Pilgrim wanders slowly, then jumps above Hornet’s detected position, hovers briefly, and slams down, dealing contact damage. The Act 3 version threaded with black has four times the health and may gain standard void attacks, according to the community wiki.
The wiki reproduces this Hunter’s Journal description: “Thick-set bug consumed by haunted thread. Uses their solid frame to crush others.” It also reproduces the journal’s accompanying line: “A lucky bug to be able to grow old. Pharloom’s roads take most much earlier.”

What does the Elder Pilgrim reward?
The relevant collectible is a Pilgrim Shawl. The Elder Pilgrim is one of several eligible Pilgrim enemies, so defeating one is not the only way to work toward the associated Wish.
Garb of the Pilgrims Wish
After defeating Bell Beast, accept Garb of the Pilgrims at the Wishwall in Bone Bottom. It requires 12 Pilgrim Shawls. The community wiki lists the Elder Pilgrim’s quest-relevant locations as the Marrow and Bonegrave; its general encounter list also describes the Bone Bottom, Blasted Steps, and Shakra encounters above. Completing the Wish awards a Rosary Necklace worth 120 and adds a clothesline draped with Pilgrim Shawls to Bone Bottom’s background. These are quest rewards, not an Elder Pilgrim’s direct drop.

If the Wish is still incomplete when Bone Bottom is destroyed in Act 3, it is removed from the Tasks menu. Complete it before that event if you want to claim its reward.
Other ways to collect shawls
The wiki says any enemy with “Pilgrim” in its name can provide Pilgrim Shawls. It notes that Mosshome has many pilgrims, and also lists corpse bags in Bilewater and a repeatable collectible in the Memorium as sources. Shawls do not drop during enemy gauntlets.
