What is Wreckfest 2?
Developed by Bugbear Entertainment and published by THQ Nordic, Wreckfest 2 is a full-contact racing game with demolition derby events. Its official feature description highlights high-speed circuits, jumps and obstacles, intersections, oncoming traffic and derby arenas. The appeal is not clean laps in pristine cars: it is racing through hazards and collisions in old, dented, patched-together vehicles.
The game is built around a rebuilt physics simulation and more detailed vehicle damage, including damage to individual components and deeper armor systems. Customization and sharing car designs are also part of the official feature description. Those descriptions cover the game’s intended experience; because it is still in Early Access, the exact feature set in a given build can change.
What can you play in Early Access?
Steam describes the current Early Access state as the core racing and derby experience, with a selection of vehicles and maps playable in single-player and multiplayer. The game has received updates since launch, so its four-car launch roster is not a reliable current count.

From launch to Update #8
At launch on March 20, 2025, THQ Nordic described single-player and multiplayer racing and derby, three maps with several tracks, a sandbox testing map, four cars, basic paint customization, a garage for saving designs, an initial replay and photo mode, and leaderboards. These are launch-era details, not a description of everything available in the current build. THQ Nordic’s launch announcement records that initial release.
The first major update, announced in May 2025, added two cars and two tracks, along with friend invites, server sorting, DLSS and FSR upscaling, improved mechanical damage and controller rumble. The Update #1 announcement gives those dated changes.

Later development brought further additions. Update #8 was announced on June 30, 2026; Steam lists player progression, a minimap, two cars, waypoint and suicide races, quick tuning, paint-job file sharing, performance and scoring improvements, and interface changes among its additions. For the precise contents of the live build, consult the Steam update list rather than relying on the launch roster.
Features described for the full game
The official feature overview also describes a reimagined career mode, skill-based matchmaking, server queues and local split-screen. These are official feature descriptions, not a guarantee that every element is fully implemented in the Early Access build. Check the dated update information if a particular mode or feature is essential to your purchase.

What does Early Access mean for buyers?
Steam warns that Early Access games are incomplete and may change. Bugbear and THQ Nordic say the game demonstrates its core racing and derby experience, while the full version is planned to offer many modes, tracks, vehicles and an extensive career. They estimate a minimum Early Access period of 12 months, but say the actual duration can vary; that estimate is not a firm version 1.0 release date.
The developers also say the price will increase during Early Access. The current price, regional availability and any discount can change, so check the live Steam listing before buying. Steam’s guidance is straightforward: if the current state does not appeal to you, wait and see how development progresses.

Where can you buy it, and which platforms are confirmed?
The verified listing is the digital PC version on Steam. The developers discuss a planned full release on PC and consoles, but that does not establish that console editions are available now or provide a definitive console release date. The sources also do not establish a physical edition. Check official listings for platform availability rather than assuming that artwork or a future-release plan means a console version is already on sale.
Steam mentions controller rumble in the Update #1 notes, but the available information does not identify a required or recommended controller or racing wheel. No particular peripheral or PC upgrade is established as necessary; use the listed PC requirements to assess whether your system meets the current targets.
