What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Choose the Terraria world evil whose exclusive boss, items and visual style you want: Corruption gives you the Eater of Worlds and a purple wasteland; Crimson gives you the Brain of Cthulhu and a red, fleshy biome. Neither is established as universally easier or better. Both spread more aggressively in Hardmode, so the choice also affects which biome you will manage as your world develops.
What does your world evil change?
A world generates either Corruption or Crimson as its natural evil. That choice determines which evil-specific features and content appear, including its altars, underground biome, related enemies and items, and the corresponding evil-themed chest in the Dungeon. It also determines which of the two evil bosses is associated with that world. See the Terraria Wiki’s evil-biome reference for the biome differences.

- Corruption: the purple wasteland and the Eater of Worlds.
- Crimson: the red, fleshy biome and the Brain of Cthulhu.
These are different content paths, not evidence that one is objectively stronger or easier. The available references describe their distinct features and bosses but do not establish a controlled difficulty ranking.
Which should you pick?
Choose Corruption if…
- You prefer its purple, barren visual theme.
- You want the world’s natural evil content associated with the Eater of Worlds.
Choose Crimson if…
- You prefer its red, fleshy visual theme.
- You want the world’s natural evil content associated with the Brain of Cthulhu.
If you have no strong preference, either is a reasonable choice. The meaningful difference is the exclusive world content you want to encounter, rather than a proven universal advantage in difficulty.
#1 Best Overall
- Build up a hospital from nothing to a masterpiece as you design the most beautiful – or functional – healthcare operation in the whole of Two Point County.
- Optimise your hospital design to increase patient (and cash) flow, arranging corridors, rooms and waiting areas to your exact specifications.
- Expand your hospital to multiple buildings as you look to get as many patients through the door as possible.
- Place decorative and functional items around your hospital to improve its prestige, lower patient boredom, increase happiness and keep those end of year awards flowing in.
- Features two great expansions, 21 hospitals and 119 very unusual illnesses!
Can you get content from both?
In supported versions, players can create an artificial biome of the opposite evil, which can open opportunities for biome-dependent enemies and items. It does not generate the opposite evil’s Dungeon chest, so it is not a complete substitute for having that evil as the world’s natural biome. Whether and how to select an evil during world creation depends on the game version and platform; do not assume the interface is identical everywhere. The evil-biome reference documents the artificial-opposite-biome distinction.

Hardmode starts when you defeat the Wall of Flesh. The world gains Hardmode biome changes, including an Underground Corruption or Underground Crimson corresponding to its original evil. Both Corruption and Crimson spread more aggressively in Hardmode, and evil biomes can cause NPCs to leave their homes. That makes containment and world management worth considering, but it does not make one evil the universally preferable choice. See the Terraria Wiki’s Hardmode reference.
