On September 25, 2025, the moderators of r/silenthill said discussion around SILENT HILL f’s release had brought reports of personal attacks, insults and offensive comments. Their announcement asked members to keep criticism of the game separate from attacks on other fans. It describes the moderators’ concerns about their subreddit—not the scale or conduct of the wider Silent Hill fandom.
What did the r/silenthill moderators say?
The moderation team posted its announcement on September 25, 2025, saying the game had released and that it wanted to clarify expectations for discussion. The team said it had received reports and modmail about personal attacks, insults and offensive comments across multiple discussions. It did not provide counts or other measurements, so the post is an account of what moderators said they were seeing, not a measure of how common the behavior was.
The moderators said they were not taking a side on the game: “Everyone’s opinions are valid, we are not taking anyone’s side;” They asked users to “Refrain from being disrespectful, state your ideas without attacking those who might disagree;” and said, “Stop with the name calling, we will remove comments and posts like that.”
What conduct could lead to a ban?
The announcement said the team reserved the option of permanent bans for users who repeatedly engaged in what it called unhealthy discussion, trolling, ragebaiting or attacks on people trying to have a normal conversation. The stated focus was repeated conduct; the post does not provide a detailed enforcement record or explain how individual cases were handled.

The moderators also said some members were using reports against people simply because they disagreed with them. They encouraged reporting genuinely offensive material while asking users not to use the reporting feature to suppress opposing opinions. This is the team’s description of the problem and its guidance to subreddit members.
Why might discussion of SILENT HILL f be sensitive?
Konami’s SILENT HILL f support page lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC storefronts, and identifies depictions including gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture and graphic violence. These subjects may inform strong reactions to the game, but the content descriptors do not establish why particular fans disagreed or excuse personal abuse.

Konami also has a separate Japanese guideline for user-created gameplay videos and screenshots. Established September 9, 2025 and last revised July 2, 2026, it prohibits insulting, defamatory or slanderous expression in posts about the game and recommends clear spoiler and sensitive-content notices. That guidance concerns gameplay posts; it is not the rule set for r/silenthill.

The post documents a moderation warning and the team’s account of conduct in its subreddit during the game’s release period. It does not show how representative that dispute was of Silent Hill fans overall, which viewpoint was more often involved in rule-breaking, whether bans or removals were applied consistently, or whether the warning reduced conflict. The available information supports a narrower conclusion: the moderators wanted users to criticize the game without attacking one another.
