Two PC character-replacement mods let players swap Silent Hill 2 remake protagonist James Sunderland for CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas or Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil 4 Remake. Both were uploaded on October 9, 2024—the remake’s launch window—so “already” describes a first-day modding story, not a new 2026 announcement.
What the CJ and Leon mods change
Modder SpiritHun released two separate character replacers for the 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake: PLAY AS CJ and Play as RE4R-Leon. The names and launch-era coverage describe swaps for James Sunderland’s character model; they do not indicate a change to the game’s story or missions. GamesRadar+ reported on the first-day character swaps, including CJ and Leon.

The file sizes and version numbers are Nexus listing metadata, not measures of quality or performance. The Leon changelog documents iteration after launch, but does not establish compatibility with every current game patch.
Where these mods can be installed
Both Nexus listings specify the game’s SHProto\Content\Paks\~mods folder as the install location, indicating these are PC mods. The pages also offer mod-manager downloads; Nexus identifies Vortex as its open-source mod manager, but using a manager is optional. The listings do not establish console installation support.

The CJ and Leon uploads appeared on October 9, 2024, around the remake’s launch, and GamesRadar+ covered the swaps in that first-day context. The word “already” captures how quickly fan-made character replacements appeared; it should not be read as a current release alert.
