Where is Nameless Town?
Nameless Town sits on the surface above the Cradle and is reached in Act 3. Its route runs through the Border Caves, but getting back into the Cradle in Act 3 requires a different entrance from the earlier lift route.
The location, route, and item details below are documented by the community-maintained Hollow Knight Wiki’s Nameless Town page; this is not an official developer walkthrough.
What you need before going
- Silk Soar: needed to open the route from the Cradle into the Border Caves.
- Needolin: used in the eastern ruined house to make the Surface Memento drop.
- Clawline and needle-bouncing: named as techniques involved in the thorn-lined climb. The available route reference does not establish a complete room-by-room walkthrough or button timings.
The Pale Nails point is a landmark for where to use Silk Soar, not a separate access requirement.

How to reach Nameless Town
1. Return to the Cradle in Act 3
The first time through, the Cradle is accessed from the Cogwork Core after obtaining Threefold Melody and playing it for the Cogwork Statues, which enables the lift. In Act 3, that lift is unavailable. From the upper-right hallway in Choral Chambers, use Silk Soar to reach a recess in the ruined Cogwork Core; the recess leads back into the Cradle. 2. Open the Border Caves route
Inside the Cradle, use Silk Soar near the Pale Nails landmark. This opens the route into the Border Caves and onward toward the surface.

3. Climb to the surface
The ascent is a thorn-lined platforming challenge involving needle-bouncing and Clawline. The available guide does not establish precise coordinates, a full map-based sequence, or reliable input timings, so follow the visible route rather than relying on invented room-by-room directions. A shortcut near town leads back to the Border Caves bench.

That guidance does not confirm that Nameless Town has a purchasable map or that the whole area is charted in-game. The Nameless Town page includes an unofficial map reference, but it should not be mistaken for a developer-provided map.
How to get the Surface Memento
- Reach the far eastern edge of Nameless Town.
- Enter the decaying, ruined house.
- Play Needolin. The Surface Memento drops from the ceiling.
The Surface Memento can be displayed at Bellhome in Bellhart.

Optional content on the climb
Near the end of the surface ascent is the final location where Mister Mushroom can be encountered during the Passing of the Age wish. This is optional and separate from obtaining the Surface Memento.
Hornet’s dialogue at the surface gives the location a story context: “Out there lie the endless wastes… If I cross them now, Pharloom shall fall to a black fate of my making.” She then says, “My choice is made. I will not abandon its bugs to that grim end. I must descend again, and cut them free.” These lines are attributed to Hornet in the Nameless Town dialogue, as transcribed on the community-maintained area page.
