During Summer Game Fest 2025, Geoff Keighley read a mock message from Deadpool asking him to skip a Hollow Knight: Silksong trailer and promote Deadpool’s VR game instead. The gag prompted visible criticism from some fans, but online comments do not show that the whole fanbase—or even most of it—was unhappy.
What was the Deadpool VR reveal joke?
As part of the Deadpool VR reveal at Summer Game Fest 2025, host Geoff Keighley read a purported message from Deadpool. Windows Central transcribed it as: “You’re gonna do me a solid and skip that Silksong trailer so you can pimp my revolutionary VR gaming venture that will shock the industry probably,” Windows Central reported.
GamesRadar+ described the line as a comic request to skip a Silksong trailer in favor of showing the Deadpool VR game, read from a card supposedly sent by Deadpool. The reports describe a setup for the reveal, not a Silksong trailer that was actually pulled from the show. GamesRadar+
Why did some Silksong fans dislike it?
The joke leaned on a wait that had already become a sore point for some followers of Silksong. GamesRadar+ and Windows Central connected the reaction to years of anticipation and sparse news about the sequel; Gfinity also linked some viewers’ frustration to the wait and lack of consistent updates. In that context, invoking a nonexistent trailer as the punchline could feel less like harmless teasing and more like another reminder of disappointment.

- Become Deadpool in an original story made from the ground up for the Meta Quest.
- As Deadpool you'll string together parkour and combat in a way that feels right out of the films.
- Deadpool moments where the player can see and experience things only Deadpool can do, like drive a heavily armed jeep into a Helicarrier (and lose his head along the way).
- Frenetic combat system where that's as crazy as you are. Pop an enemy up and throw a grenade to explode them into pieces? Check. Take your recently cut off arm and throw it at the bad guys? Gross, but also check.
That explains why the bit landed badly for some people; it does not mean every fan took offense. The same reference could also read as a deliberately absurd, Deadpool-style tease, especially for viewers who saw the joke as a quick gag rather than a promise of news.
Was the fan reaction unanimous?
No. Individual Reddit discussions included people describing the joke as cruel, mean, or badly timed, alongside others who found it funny or thought anger over it was an overreaction. Those posts show a range of reactions, not a representative poll. The available coverage and discussions do not establish how many fans objected or whether critics outnumbered people who enjoyed the gag. One discussion and another illustrate the split.
