Snoop Dogg and Ice Spice’s November 1, 2024, Times Square performance was more than a concert broadcast into Fortnite: it opened a month-long season that brought music into the game’s world, modes, and recurring programming. The event, called Remix: The Prelude, offered a glimpse of Fortnite’s broader music strategy—but not proof that virtual concerts will replace live shows or music platforms.
What happened at the Times Square concert?
On November 1, 2024, Snoop Dogg and Ice Spice performed in New York’s Times Square while the show was streamed live in Fortnite. Epic Games called it Remix: The Prelude. The game’s season announcement said players could catch the full performance later at Risky Reels.

The Prelude launched Chapter 2 Remix, which ran from November 2 through November 30, 2024. It revisited the Chapter 2 island through weekly artist themes centered on Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Ice Spice, and Juice WRLD. The season also tied artists to Fortnite Festival and other in-game content. Epic presented the November 30 event, Remix: The Finale, as a celebration and tribute to Juice WRLD.
Those dates and items describe a completed 2024 season, not content confirmed as currently available. Epic’s original Chapter 2 Remix announcement set out the schedule and its planned content.

Why the Prelude pointed to a larger music strategy
The concert connected a real-world performance to an interactive game season. That combination matters because Fortnite’s music presence is not limited to occasional headline events: it has also included Fortnite Festival, playable songs, in-game radio, emotes, and other artist-themed content. Andrew Webster’s report for The Verge describes those formats as parts of an expanding music model.
From one-off spectacles to recurring music activity
Epic’s head of global partnerships, Nate Nanzer, told Webster that earlier music events tended to be separated by months or years. He described Festival as a venue for celebrating music more regularly. In that account, Travis Scott’s Astronomical demonstrated the scale of a virtual event, while Festival gave music a more ongoing place in Fortnite.

Snoop Dogg framed the relationship as more than a one-song placement: “This is a partnership. Most games just want one song and you don’t even see the artist. So for them to let us be a part of the game, and that community, it’s deep.” His remark, quoted by Webster after the show, points to the appeal for artists: participation can extend across a game community and multiple forms of content.
A season can make the collaboration feel integrated
Chapter 2 Remix spread its artist themes across the island and Festival rather than treating the Times Square broadcast as the whole event. Snoop was also the featured Icon for Fortnite Festival Season 6. Epic described a Snoop-themed car bundle, digital outfits and rewards, and Festival content as part of the season. Cordell Broadus, Snoop’s son, told Webster that seeing Fortnite’s Wu-Tang Clan collaboration prompted him to push for Snoop’s music in the game: “I kept saying: ‘I gotta put his music in there.’”

Juice WRLD’s place in the season added a different dimension. In Epic’s announcement, his mother, Carmela Wallace, said, “Jarad always loved to play Fortnite – it was more than just entertainment for him, it was a way to connect with others.” Epic framed the season’s finale as a tribute to the artist. Together, the season’s artist themes show how a game collaboration can mix promotion, play, and remembrance.
How big was the Times Square Fortnite audience?
The reviewed announcements and coverage do not establish a precise audience figure for Remix: The Prelude, the November 1 Times Square performance. The often-cited figure of 14.3 million concurrent players belongs to a different event: Remix: The Finale on November 30.

Music Business Worldwide reported on December 2, 2024, citing Fortnite’s December 1 announcement, that more than 14 million concurrent players participated in the Finale; Fortnite also estimated that more than 3 million people streamed it online. Those numbers describe the in-game season finale, not the Times Square Prelude, so they should not be used as the Prelude’s reach.

The Prelude makes the strategy visible: Fortnite can link a live artist appearance to a themed season and recurring music experiences inside the game. That gives a collaboration several touchpoints instead of relying on a single broadcast. But the model remains an experiment, not evidence that games have replaced conventional concerts or dedicated music services.

Webster’s report notes that an earlier Epic effort to create virtual tour stops for artists largely fizzled out. That history is a useful counterweight to the ambition of Chapter 2 Remix. Fortnite’s music activity may offer exposure to major artists and potentially less-established acts, but the Times Square event alone cannot establish how effective those opportunities are or how durable the approach will be.
Is Fortnite Festival still available?
Yes. As of October 8, 2026, Epic’s Festival support page says Fortnite Festival is not ending. Its Battle Stage competitive mode went offline with release 40.20 on April 16, 2026, while Main Stage, Jam Stage, and music features across Fortnite continue. That current status is separate from Chapter 2 Remix: the 2024 Prelude and season have passed.
