SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS launched for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. SEGA announced the version on April 3, 2025, alongside several other SEGA-group games for the console—but those titles did not all arrive on the same date.
When did Sonic X Shadow Generations come out on Switch 2?
SEGA announced the Nintendo Switch 2 version on April 3, 2025, and said it was available on June 5, 2025. In its launch announcement, SEGA Corporation stated: “SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS is now available on Nintendo Switch™ 2.” SEGA’s April announcement and June launch announcement mark those as announcement and release dates, respectively.
What’s included in the game?
SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS combines a remaster of Sonic Generations with the new Shadow Generations campaign. SEGA’s original release announcement described the remastered Sonic portion as drawing on both 3D and 2D stages, with upgraded visuals and bonus content. The original game was announced for PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam, and the Epic Games Store on October 25, 2024. SEGA’s original release details explain the package.
The movie-themed DLC is separate
SEGA said the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack would also be downloadable on Switch 2. The announcement describes it as DLC: playing its new skin and stages requires the base game and purchase of the pack. It should not be treated as automatically included with every base-game purchase. SEGA’s Switch 2 announcement gives the pack details.

The April 3, 2025 announcement cycle included several other games from SEGA and ATLUS. Their release schedules and formats differed:

SEGA’s announcements provide the dates and descriptions above: April’s Switch 2 lineup, the Puyo Tetris launch announcement, the Yakuza announcement, and the Two Point Museum announcement. ATLUS announced the June 19 date for RAIDOU Remastered.

What SEGA said about sales
SEGA reported that SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS had sold over 2 million units worldwide as of June 5, 2025, in its Switch 2 launch announcement. That is a dated milestone, not a current sales total or a Switch 2-only figure. SEGA’s announcement does not break the total down by platform or region.
