Sonic X Shadow Generations is a two-part single-player platformer: a remaster of 2011’s Sonic Generations and a new campaign starring Shadow. In Tom’s Guide’s 2024 review, the new Shadow adventure is the package’s main draw, but its short length is the reviewer’s biggest reservation. That is one reviewer’s judgment, not a universal verdict.
What is included in Sonic X Shadow Generations?
The game combines two campaigns. Sonic Generations brings Classic and Modern Sonic together in a remastered version of the 2011 game; Shadow Generations is a new adventure focused on Shadow. Tom’s Guide lists Sonic Team as developer and SEGA as publisher, and reports an October 25, 2024 release date.

Why Shadow’s campaign is the main attraction
Achanta highlights Shadow’s Doom Powers and Chaos Control as ways to expand traversal and combat. The reviewer also praises the level design, music, bosses, and returning stages. Those strengths give the new campaign a distinct identity within a package that also revisits Sonic’s earlier adventure.

How long is Shadow Generations?
Achanta characterizes the Shadow campaign as taking nearly six hours. This is the reviewer’s approximate description, not a guaranteed completion time or an independently measured benchmark. The review also describes the full package as having over 150 stages across both campaigns, without clarifying whether that count means unique stages or includes challenge variants.
Optional content does not erase the reviewer’s central complaint: Shadow’s campaign feels short. The review’s author says the fast-paced game does not take long to beat, even for completionists, and identifies that as the biggest issue. Players who prioritize a longer main campaign may find this the most important consideration.

What does the Sonic Generations remaster add?
The remastered 2011 campaign is a substantial part of the package, but Achanta says its additions are limited. The review names upscaled resolution, rerecorded voices, hidden Chao, and drop-dash abilities for both Sonics. It does not characterize the remaster as a broad overhaul.
That makes the two halves appeal in different ways: Shadow provides the new campaign and its powers, while Sonic Generations offers a refreshed return to the older game. The reviewer praises the nostalgia and returning stages, but some challenge stages feel repetitive.
