None of these handhelds is established as a universal 1080p/60 FPS winner. The ROG Ally X (2024) is the clearest fit if you want a native 1080p screen, while the Steam Deck OLED prioritizes SteamOS and an 800p display, and the second-generation Lenovo Legion Go offers a larger, higher-resolution OLED screen with detachable controllers. A screen’s resolution and refresh rate do not prove that a game will render at that resolution and sustain 60 FPS.
Which handheld can run games at 1080p 60 FPS?
The available specifications do not establish that any of these devices sustains 60 FPS at native 1080p across a representative set of games. Performance depends on the specific game, graphics settings, power mode, whether the handheld is plugged in, and any upscaling or frame-generation options. A 120Hz or 144Hz panel describes the screen’s refresh capability, not the frame rate a game will deliver.
ASUS lists performance-test labels for the ROG Ally X, including Turbo mode while plugged in at 30W, and cautions that scores vary with configuration and drivers. Those manufacturer conditions are not a controlled comparison against the other two handhelds, nor proof of battery-powered 60 FPS across games. To verify a 1080p/60 claim for a game, look for results tied to that title, its settings, the device configuration, power mode, and whether the test was on battery or AC.
How the three handhelds compare

Lenovo’s figures describe maximum configurations; they do not guarantee that every market sells the same specification. Check the exact regional SKU before comparing devices or buying. The original Legion Go (8.8”, 1) is a different generation from the Legion Go (8.8”, 2) discussed here.

What the screen resolutions mean for 1080p gaming
ROG Ally X: native 1080p
The Ally X’s 1920 × 1080 screen matches the pixel dimensions of 1080p content. That makes it the straightforward choice if matching the display’s native resolution is your priority. It does not mean every game will render at 1920 × 1080, or that the Ally X will maintain 60 FPS at that resolution.
Steam Deck OLED: 800p, not 1080p
The Steam Deck OLED’s native panel resolution is 1280 × 800, so it is not a 1080p handheld screen. Its 90Hz maximum refresh rate does not change that resolution. If native 1080p on the handheld’s own display is a requirement, this is not the match.

Legion Go (8.8”, 2): 1920 × 1200 OLED
The second-generation Legion Go has a 1920 × 1200 panel, which is taller than a 1920 × 1080 display. Its up-to-144Hz refresh rate and VRR are screen capabilities, not evidence that a game will render at 1080p or sustain 60 FPS. The larger OLED display and detachable controllers are meaningful differentiators if those features matter more to you than a 1080p panel specifically.
Which is better for your games and launchers?
Platform choice can matter as much as raw hardware if your library depends on a particular storefront, subscription, or anti-cheat system. Compatibility is game- and service-specific, so confirm the titles and services you use rather than assuming every PC game behaves the same way on every handheld.
- Steam Deck OLED: Runs SteamOS 3. If your priority is a Steam-focused handheld experience, this is the one of the three whose listed operating system is SteamOS.
- ROG Ally X: Runs Windows 11 Home. ASUS says the Ally supports Steam, Xbox Game Pass, Epic, GOG, and more; that broad launcher support does not guarantee compatibility for every game or service.
- Legion Go (8.8”, 2): Lenovo identifies it as Windows 11-based. Check compatibility for the specific launcher, game, and online features you need.
Which handheld has the best battery life?
The listed capacities are 50Wh for Steam Deck OLED, 80Wh for ROG Ally X, and 74Wh for Legion Go (8.8”, 2). These figures describe battery capacity, not gaming hours, so they do not establish which device lasts longest in use. Runtime depends on the workload and power settings; a meaningful comparison needs results from the same game and settings under comparable conditions.

- Choose ROG Ally X if you want the only 1920 × 1080 native screen in this comparison, Windows 11 Home, or the listed 24GB memory and 1TB SSD configuration. Treat 1080p/60 FPS as a game-specific target to check, not a guarantee.
- Choose Steam Deck OLED if SteamOS 3 and a 7.4-inch HDR OLED screen are a better fit than native 1080p. Its 1280 × 800 panel is the key resolution trade-off.
- Choose Legion Go (8.8”, 2) if you want the largest listed screen here, a 1920 × 1200 OLED panel with VRR, or detachable controllers. Confirm that the configuration and features you want are available in your region.
For a performance-first purchase, compare the exact games you play at the resolution and settings you intend to use, and check results that identify the device generation, regional configuration, power mode, and battery or plugged-in state. Without those like-for-like results, specifications alone cannot settle which one is best for 1080p/60 FPS.
