Sonic Rumble is no longer just an iOS and Android announcement: SEGA launched the free-to-play arcade royale worldwide on November 5, 2025, for iOS, Android, Steam, and Google Play Games. SEGA says mobile and PC players can compete together in matches of up to 32 players.
When did Sonic Rumble launch?
SEGA revealed Sonic Rumble on May 9, 2024, initially describing it as a mobile game for iOS and Android with a winter 2024 release window. The schedule changed: SEGA announced May 8, 2025 as a later launch date, then superseded it with a November 5, 2025 release. The official Sonic Rumble site announced the game was live worldwide on that final date.

SEGA’s global launch materials list four platforms: iOS, Android, Steam, and Google Play Games. The game began as a mobile announcement, but the final release included PC as well. SEGA says mobile and PC players can play together through cross-play.
The available announcements do not establish specific device requirements or guarantee availability in every regional storefront. Check the relevant platform’s listing for current local availability and compatibility.

What kind of game is Sonic Rumble?
SEGA describes Sonic Rumble as an arcade royale set in Dr. Eggman’s toy world. Players control toy versions of Sonic characters and compete in races, obstacle courses, brawls, survival stages, and other challenges. SEGA says a match can include up to 32 players.
Character options include Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, and others. Players can collect skins and emotes and customize their characters. These are features described by SEGA; the announcement materials do not provide independent gameplay testing.

Is Sonic Rumble free to play?
Yes. SEGA describes Sonic Rumble as free-to-play, with optional in-app purchases. That confirms the basic access model, but the announcements do not establish current item prices or the specific rules for individual purchases.

The iOS and Android wording reflects the original May 2024 reveal, not the final platform lineup. The game later added PC to its release plans and launched on both mobile and PC. The reveal also named Rovio, the company associated with Angry Birds, as a collaboration partner. SEGA called it the companies’ first jointly released title; the announcements do not detail how development responsibilities were divided.
