Spyfall Online: How to Play the Mystery Game With Friends

Create a room, share its code, and play Spyfall online with friends. Service rules and player limits differ from Cryptozoic’s physical editions.

To play Spyfall online with friends, have one person create a room on a browser-based Spyfall service and share its room code; everyone else joins with that code. In Spyfall, most players secretly receive the same location while one player—the spy—does not. Players ask and answer questions to identify the spy without revealing the location, while the spy tries to blend in or work out where everyone is. The room setup is straightforward, but player limits and rules depend on the specific online service.

How to set up a game online

  1. Choose a browser-based service. Spyfall.co describes remote play, while Spyfall.Live describes browser play without a download. The services’ own descriptions do not establish that either is an official or licensed digital edition.
  2. Have one person create a room. The host starts a game and receives a room code, according to the services’ descriptions.
  3. Share the code with the group. Friends enter the code to join the host’s room. Spyfall.co’s FAQ specifically describes creating a room and sharing its code to play with friends online.
  4. Check the selected service’s player limit and settings. These vary by implementation; do not assume that a rule or limit from one site applies to another.

These are service-reported features, not independently tested guarantees. See Spyfall.co and Spyfall.Live for their respective descriptions.

What happens during a round

In the core game, the non-spies know a shared secret location and the spy does not. Players take turns asking questions and answering them. Non-spies try to identify the spy without making the location obvious; the spy listens for clues and tries to answer convincingly, or to guess the location. A round turns on suspicion and careful questioning, not on having everyone reveal their cards or the location outright.

Cryptozoic describes its physical Spyfall as “an easy-to-learn card game of bluffing, probing questions, clever answers, and suspicion.” Its original-game rules describe eight-minute rounds, accusations, scoring across rounds, and a typical five-round game. Those are the publisher’s tabletop rules, not a universal timer or match format for browser versions.

The non-Joker players must deduce who is the Clown Prince of Crime without giving away the location, while the Joker must figure out the location before his or her identity is revealed!
