When Alpha 4.5 went live—and where it fits now
Roberts Space Industries reported Alpha 4.5.0 LIVE deployed at 00:45 UTC on December 18, 2025. The release milestone does not mean Alpha 4.5 is the current version. RSI’s development tracker was surfacing Alpha 4.10.2 PTU notes on October 8, 2026, so check current patch notes for the state of any feature today. RSI Status · RSI development tracker
What Alpha 4.5 added
RSI’s “Dawn of Engineering” overview highlighted several areas of change. It is a feature overview, not a complete patch-note record, and later updates may have changed how these features work.
Ship engineering gameplay
Engineering gameplay was the update’s central feature: Alpha 4.5 brought ship engineering into the game. Consult the current patch notes for details on its present implementation.

Graphics and rendering
RSI highlighted Vulkan renderer stability and speed improvements, diagnostics and crash fixes, multi-threaded render submission, HDR and NVIDIA DLSS Transformer support, and an overhaul of graphics options.
FPS combat AI
The announcement described smarter NPC decision-making in FPS combat, including changes to perception and reactions, grenade targeting, group awareness, friend-or-foe checks, and animation synchronization.

Loot, attachments and ships
The overview also called out loot refreshes, 28 new weapon attachments, and ships available through Wikelo’s Emporium: the Aegis Idris, Anvil Asgard, MISC Prospector, Argo RAFT, and Kruger L-21 Wolf. The announcement identifies these as update highlights; it does not establish their current availability or implementation.

- Open the RSI Launcher settings.
- Select Games.
- Choose the environment you want to use, such as LIVE or PTU.
- Turn on VR Support.
The launcher displays an indicator when VR mode is enabled. RSI says VR can be disabled from the environment selector. Its support article warns that the feature is still being tested and may have problems as implementation continues. RSI VR support article
Check headset support before buying or troubleshooting
The RSI guidance does not name compatible headset models or establish a supported-device list. If you plan to try VR, verify current device compatibility and PC system requirements through RSI before choosing hardware; the setup instructions alone do not guarantee that a particular headset will work.
