Star Citizen passed $700 million in crowdfunding in late May 2024: a May 28 tracker snapshot put the total at $701,777,380, and a report the next day said it had topped $703 million. The milestone is now historical: PC Gamer reported that the project crossed $1 billion in May 2026. The latest dated figure available here is a community-tracker snapshot of $1,048,404,763.69, updated September 28, 2026.
When did Star Citizen pass $700 million?
It happened in late May 2024. The FPS Review reported a May 28 snapshot of $701,777,380 and a tracker count of 5,241,343 “Star Citizens.” The count belongs to that historical snapshot; it is not a current backer total. The FPS Review’s May 28, 2024 report gives both figures.
On May 29, MMORPG.com reported that funding had exceeded $703 million, citing Cloud Imperium Games’ official funding statistics. Invictus Launch Week and its accompanying Free Fly event were underway at the time, providing useful context for that point-in-time figure—not proof that the event alone caused the increase. What is the latest reported total?
The 2024 milestone is no longer the project’s highest reported threshold. PC Gamer reported that Star Citizen crossed $1 billion in player funding on May 25, 2026. PC Gamer’s May 2026 report records that milestone.

The latest dated total available here is $1,048,404,763.69, shown by the community-maintained Star Citizen Wiki API in a snapshot updated September 28, 2026. The API also listed a “Fleet” count of 6,725,305; that label should not be read as a player or backer count. The funding total is a tracker figure, not an audited financial statement. The Star Citizen Wiki API provides the dated snapshot.
Cloud Imperium Games’ official funding page is the primary place to check for its live counter. Its amount was not readable in the captured page text, so the September 2026 community snapshot should not be mistaken for an independently verified or necessarily live official total. Funding counters can change.

What does the crowdfunding total tell you—and what doesn’t it?
RSI describes Star Citizen as a crowd-funded project and says, “As a crowd funded project, money pledged goes directly to the game’s development.” That is the company’s description of its model, not an independent accounting of how the money was received or spent. RSI’s funding page sets out that description.
A public pledge counter does not establish how much cash the company currently holds, how much it has spent, its total costs, net investment, or how funds were allocated. It therefore cannot answer how much of the reported total remains available. The milestone also does not, by itself, establish when the game will be complete or whether particular delivery goals will be met.

What has Cloud Imperium said about delays and changes?
The official pledge page, signed “Chris Roberts and the Cloud Imperium Team,” says: “There may be delays and there may be changes; we recognize that such things are inevitable and would be lying to you if we claimed otherwise.” This is the team’s statement on that page, not a separately attributed interview.
