Insider Gaming reported on May 21, 2025, that three Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) employees associated with Star Citizen’s server-meshing work had left the company. CIG later reported continued development of the technology, but the available updates do not show whether the departures affected staffing, pace, or schedule.
Who did Insider Gaming report had left CIG?
In its May 21, 2025 report, Insider Gaming said Lead Producer of Core Tech (Server Meshing) Roger Godfrey had publicly left the company in December 2024. It also reported that Producer Ivan C. and Network Programmer Jordan Wood had left. The outlet characterized the latter two as “integral” to server meshing and attributed the phrase “huge loss” to staff; those descriptions are the report’s account, not independently verified job classifications or named on-record assessments.
Insider Gaming said it was unclear why the three had left in a relatively short period. Its account that internal tensions following CIG’s late-2023 takeover of Turbulent may have contributed came from people familiar with the situation who were not named on the record. What does the report establish about the team?
Insider Gaming also said the departures left CIG without the two producers who had worked on server meshing. That is the outlet’s account, not a confirmed staffing census. What did CIG report about server meshing afterward?
CIG’s subsequent monthly development reports describe continued work, but they address technical plans rather than the staffing claims in Insider Gaming’s story.
- October 2025: CIG said its Network team was working toward a first iteration of new server-meshing technology planned to enter initial testing in early November. It described the work as groundwork toward Dynamic Server Meshing and said players would not experience significant changes from that step. Does an operational Star Citizen service mean Dynamic Server Meshing is complete?
No. The RSI service-status page listed the Persistent Universe as operational and recorded an Alpha 4.10.1 deployment on September 16, 2026. That indicates live service availability as reflected by the page; it does not establish that Dynamic Server Meshing is complete or reveal whether particular staffing changes affected development.

What is server meshing?
As historical technical context, CIG’s Alpha 3.12 postmortem described server meshing as simulating the game across multiple game servers and outlined networking work intended to support it. That explanation helps clarify the technology’s purpose, but the postmortem is not a current status report.
