To romance Abigail in Stardew Valley, raise her friendship to 8 hearts, give her a Bouquet to start dating, then reach 10 hearts and give her a Mermaid’s Pendant to propose. The reliable route is to give her loved gifts, use her Fall 13 birthday for a high-value gift when possible, and trigger her heart events at their specific times and locations.

How do I romance Abigail in Stardew Valley?

  1. Build friendship. Talk to Abigail and give her gifts she loves. You can generally give a villager one gift per day and up to two per week; a birthday gift is in addition to those two.
  2. Reach 8 hearts and give her a Bouquet. Romance becomes available at 8 hearts. Give Abigail a Bouquet to begin dating.
  3. Raise friendship to 10 hearts. View her 10-heart event before proposing; it will not trigger after you give her the Mermaid’s Pendant.
  4. Propose with a Mermaid’s Pendant. Meet the pendant’s eligibility requirements, buy it from the Old Mariner, and give it to Abigail.
  5. Attend the wedding. It normally takes place in the morning three days after the proposal, though a town-square event or Green Rain can delay it.

Abigail lives with Pierre and Caroline at Pierre’s General Store in Pelican Town, so the store is a useful place to start looking for her. Her schedule changes with season, weather, events, and game progress; check her schedule on the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Abigail page if she is not where you expect.

What gifts does Abigail love?

Abigail loves Amethyst, Banana Pudding, Blackberry Cobbler, Chocolate Cake, Monster Compendium, Pufferfish, Pumpkin, and Spicy Eel. Amethyst and Pumpkin are straightforward options to consider, but neither is the only viable choice. Pick gifts that fit what you have available rather than assuming one item is always easiest to obtain.

As an in-game rule, a normal-quality loved gift gives 80 friendship points. A birthday gift has an eightfold friendship multiplier, and gift quality can further increase points for loved and liked gifts. Abigail’s birthday is Fall 13, so a loved gift that day is especially efficient.

When and where do Abigail’s heart events happen?

These scenes require specific conditions, not just the stated heart level. For the 8-heart event, wait until you have received Abigail’s letter. For the 10-heart event, go before giving her the Mermaid’s Pendant.

Hearts Trigger What to know
2 Enter Pierre’s General Store when Abigail is there, on any day except Saturday. Abigail invites you to play a round of Journey of the Prairie King.
4 Visit the Mountain from noon to 7 p.m. on a rainy day, in any season except Winter. Abigail is playing the flute.
6 Enter Pelican Town from any direction between 9 p.m. and midnight on a non-rainy day. The scene takes place in the graveyard. One dialogue choice can affect friendship.
8 After receiving Abigail’s letter, enter Pierre’s General Store between 8 and 10 p.m. while Abigail is there. Without the Key to the Town, the store’s regular entrance closes at 9 p.m. The wiki documents an alternate trigger: wait in Caroline’s greenhouse and exit to the kitchen.
10 Enter the Mines or Quarry Mine between 5 p.m. and midnight. Trigger this before proposing; it will not occur after you give Abigail the Mermaid’s Pendant.
14 After marrying Abigail, enter the Backwoods between 6:10 a.m. and 5 p.m. This is post-marriage content.

The 6-heart scene includes a consequential dialogue choice: telling Abigail, “Yes, but it’s dangerous. You should stay safe,” about her sword practice costs 100 friendship points. In the 10-heart scene, supportive responses increase friendship, while insulting her for being scared loses friendship. The scenes and triggers are listed on the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Abigail page.

When can I give Abigail the Mermaid’s Pendant?

You can propose once you have 10 hearts with Abigail, have upgraded your farmhouse at least once, and are not already married. The Old Mariner sells the Mermaid’s Pendant for 5,000g on rainy days. You also need to reach the beach tidal pools to access him. In winter, he appears only if you use a Rain Totem.

Mayor Lewis explains the tradition in an in-game letter: “I’m going to give you this advice because I like you and I want you to stay in Pelican Town. If there comes a day that you want to ask for someone’s hand in marriage, you’ll need to give them a ‘Mermaid’s Pendant’. Don’t worry, everyone in Pelican Town understands the significance of the amulet. It’s an ancient tradition in this region. Good luck!” The quote is reproduced on the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Marriage page.

What changes after marrying Abigail?

After the wedding, Abigail moves into your farmhouse. She has a spouse room and a flute-practice area, and your spouse relationship can reach 14 hearts. Her 14-heart event is the Backwoods scene listed above. Marriage eligibility, the pendant, and wedding timing are detailed on the Marriage page.
