SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds support PS5, Xbox and PC, but the right edition matters: the Xbox model has a dongle that switches between Xbox and PlayStation/PC modes, while the PlayStation model is specified for PlayStation and PC. Both editions pair 2.4 GHz gaming audio with Bluetooth 5.3, active noise cancellation and spatial-audio features.

Which GameBuds edition works with your console?

The main difference is the wireless dongle, not a claim that the two editions are interchangeable. SteelSeries says the PlayStation edition has a single-mode connection for PlayStation and PC. The Xbox edition uses a dual-mode dongle with separate Xbox and PlayStation/PC modes. See SteelSeries’ edition comparison before choosing; the support page identifies the modes, so check the exact compatibility details for your intended device.

Edition Dongle modes Platforms specified by SteelSeries
PlayStation Single-mode PlayStation and PC, according to SteelSeries Support
Xbox Dual-mode: Xbox or PlayStation/PC Xbox, PlayStation and PC, according to SteelSeries Support

If Xbox play is essential, select the Xbox edition. SteelSeries’ launch announcement also says Xbox support requires the Xbox GameBuds edition: SteelSeries’ September 2024 announcement.

How do 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth work?

GameBuds provide a 2.4 GHz connection for gaming through the included USB-C dongle and Bluetooth 5.3 for other devices. SteelSeries says listeners can switch between the two from the earbuds. This is useful for moving between a console or PC gaming connection and a Bluetooth device, but the dongle edition still determines console compatibility. SteelSeries lists these connection features on its PlayStation GameBuds product page.

What audio and noise-control features are included?

Active noise cancellation and transparency

SteelSeries describes a four-microphone hybrid ANC system and a transparency mode. Those are manufacturer feature claims, not a guarantee that outside noise will be blocked equally well in every environment or with every ear fit. In RTINGS’ review, updated June 23, 2026, the tested PlayStation version had satisfactory noise isolation. The review’s results apply to that tested version and its methodology: RTINGS’ GameBuds review.

360° spatial audio and PS5 presets

SteelSeries advertises 360° spatial audio and Tempest 3D support. Its PlayStation product page also lists more than 100 PS5 audio presets. These are platform-specific manufacturer claims; consult the SteelSeries product page for the PlayStation edition’s feature details.

Microphone noise handling

RTINGS found the default microphone noise handling disappointing on its tested PlayStation unit. That is a useful caveat if clear voice chat in noisy surroundings is a priority, but it should not be generalized into a measured result for the Xbox edition.

Battery, charging and durability

SteelSeries claims up to 10 hours per charge and up to 40 hours total with the case. The 40-hour maximum is specified for 2.4 GHz use with noise control off, so actual runtime depends on settings and use. SteelSeries also says a 15-minute charge provides three hours of play. The case charges over USB-C and supports Qi wireless charging. These are manufacturer specifications on the product page, not independently verified runtime results.

The same page lists IP55 protection and small, medium and large ear tips. Choose the tip that seals comfortably; fit can affect both comfort and passive noise isolation. Check the product listing for the exact edition and included accessories.

What to check before buying

  • Console: For Xbox, choose the Xbox edition; for PlayStation and PC, SteelSeries specifies the PlayStation edition as compatible.

  • Noise control: ANC and transparency are included as SteelSeries-described features; RTINGS found satisfactory isolation on the tested PlayStation version.
  • Price and stock: Current price and availability were not verified. PC Gamer listed a $160 MSRP as a launch-era reference, not a current price: PC Gamer’s review.
