If you are playing Shadow of the Erdtree, Radahn is one of two required boss defeats for access to the Realm of Shadow; Mohg is the other.
Where is Starscourge Radahn?
Radahn’s arena is reached through Redmane Castle in southeastern Caelid. The encounter becomes accessible when the Radahn Festival is active. Bandai Namco’s guide to entering the Realm of Shadow outlines three ways to activate it.

How to start the Radahn Festival
Choose the route that best matches your progress. The Altus Plateau route is the one Bandai Namco explicitly says works regardless of quest completion.

How to reach the Radahn fight
- Travel to Redmane Castle in Caelid after activating the festival.
- Speak with Witch-Hunter Jerren. GameSpot reports that exhausting his dialogue unlocks the elevator route to Radahn.
- Follow the opened route toward the lift and arena portal to enter the fight.
If the castle does not lead to the encounter, check whether the festival is active and whether you have spoken to Jerren. Should you use the festival summons?
Festival summons are an available option, not a requirement. Xbox Wire notes that players can fight Radahn with or without the many summons available during the festival. Choose whether to use them based on how you prefer to approach the encounter; this guide does not prescribe a build, level, or damage strategy.
Is Radahn required for Shadow of the Erdtree?
Yes. To enter the Realm of Shadow in Shadow of the Erdtree, you must defeat both Starscourge Radahn and Mohg. Defeating Radahn alone does not satisfy the expansion’s two-boss requirement, as stated by PlayStation’s expansion page and Bandai Namco’s access guide.

What patch information matters?
Bandai Namco’s Update 1.03 notes document a historical fix for a bug that had unintentionally weakened some of Radahn’s attacks. That note describes an earlier balance correction; it does not establish the current patch number or provide a current numerical profile of the fight. The Patch 1.05 notes also record a fix for an issue where some players could not move from the map to a Site of Grace after defeating Radahn. It is patch history, not evidence that this is a current widespread problem.
