Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou can continue a Starfield save between an Xbox console and the Xbox App for PC by using the same Xbox account and letting cloud sync finish. To use an Xbox Cloud save on Steam, open Options > Account in Starfield, sign in to the associated Xbox account, upload the saves when prompted, then manually relaunch the game. Bethesda’s documented instructions do not establish a cross-save route to or from PlayStation 5.
Which Starfield cross-save routes are documented?
| Save source | Destination | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox console | Xbox App for PC | Sign in to the same Xbox account on both platforms and allow cloud synchronization to complete. Bethesda Support’s Xbox/PC save guidance describes this sync route. |
| Xbox Cloud saves | Steam | In Starfield, use Options > Account to sign in and upload the saves, then relaunch the game. See Bethesda’s Steam setup instructions. |
| PlayStation 5 | Xbox, Xbox App for PC, or Steam | Not established by the official support pages cited here. Bethesda lists Starfield for PS5, but its available cross-save instructions do not describe a PS5 transfer route. See Bethesda’s platform list. |
These are distinct workflows: Xbox console-to-Xbox App for PC uses Xbox cloud synchronization, while Steam’s documented setup imports Xbox Cloud saves through the game’s Account menu. Do not assume that every platform or save type participates in both.
How to import an Xbox Cloud save into Starfield on Steam
- Launch the Steam version of Starfield and open Options > Account.
- Sign in to the Xbox account that owns the Xbox Cloud saves you want to use.
- Upload the Xbox Cloud saves when the game prompts you.
- Manually relaunch Starfield so the setting takes effect.
Bethesda says Premium Edition and preorder content does not transfer between platforms through this feature. Keep that separate from the save itself: a transferred save does not carry those entitlements or items across platforms. Details are in Bethesda’s Steam instructions.
How to sync an Xbox save between console and PC
- Sign in to the same Xbox account on the Xbox console and in the Xbox App for PC.
- Start the game on the first platform and wait for its cloud sync to finish.
- Create a manual save, close the game, and wait briefly.
- Launch Starfield on the other platform and allow it to sync from the cloud.
Bethesda’s guidance is to give the initial sync time to complete before switching devices; the manual save and relaunch sequence can prompt the next sync. See the Xbox/PC save article.

What to check if a save will not import or load
Xbox save will not import to Steam
- Update Starfield and confirm that Steam’s Account menu is signed into the Xbox account associated with the cloud save.
- Check that the Xbox Cloud save is available and that its sync has finished.
- Bethesda says an update on February 20, 2025 fixed an issue that could prevent Xbox Cloud saves from loading on Steam. If the import still fails, its suggested fallback is to install or launch Starfield through the Xbox App for PC, load the Xbox console save there, and then import the cloud save to Steam. See Bethesda’s import-error guidance.
Starfield will not save on PC
Bethesda lists the default Windows save folder as C:Usersuser.nameDocumentsMy GamesStarfield. Its suggested checks include unusual or special characters in Windows profile or folder names, verifying or repairing game files, and checking whether OneDrive or Google Drive synchronization interferes. It also advises checking administrator and antivirus or firewall permissions, then updating Windows, Xbox console software, and the Xbox App for PC. These are Bethesda’s troubleshooting suggestions, not guarantees that any one cause applies. See the PC save troubleshooting article.
An add-on warning appears when switching Xbox and PC
First make sure the relevant add-on is installed on both the Xbox console and Xbox App for PC. Bethesda also describes copying certain add-on files into the XboxGames Starfield data directory for specific content, including Old Mars Pack, Premium Edition/Constellation skins, Shattered Space, and Terran Armada. This is a content-specific workaround: follow Bethesda’s current instructions for the exact add-on rather than copying files indiscriminately.

An Xbox save crashes while loading
Bethesda says Xbox saves are stored on the console hard drive and in the cloud, and its troubleshooting includes restarting the game or console. Its instructions also describe deleting local saves only after confirming that the save has synced, then reconnecting so cloud saves can resync. Follow Bethesda’s full Xbox save-loading guidance carefully; do not delete cloud data.

Bethesda’s documented Steam feature excludes Premium Edition and preorder content from cross-platform transfer. The official guidance cited here also does not explain how to move saves between PlayStation 5 and Xbox or PC. Starfield being available on PS5 does not, by itself, establish that PS5 shares saves with those versions.
