No. Team Fortress 2 did not shut down in October 2023. Valve’s official update archive records a TF2 update on October 9, 2023, and later official and Steam records show activity and availability at their respective dates.
What happened in October 2023?
Valve’s official TF2 update archive lists an update dated October 9, 2023, announcing “Scream Fortress XV has arrived!” It included 12 community maps, a new case, community-created cosmetics, and other seasonal content. That dated update directly contradicts the claim that TF2 shut down that month.
What do later official records show?
In a July 16, 2026 post on the official Team Fortress 2 website, the TF2 Team wrote, “We’re still working on the MvM update.” This documents development activity as of that post; it does not promise that the game will remain available indefinitely.
Can you still play TF2?
When reviewed on October 8, 2026, Steam’s TF2 store listing described the game as free to play and displayed a “Play Game” option. Valve is identified as its developer and publisher, and the listing gives its release date as October 10, 2007. This reflects the listing at that time, not a guarantee of future service. Steam also provides a Team Fortress 2 support page.
