In Elden Ring, a Stonesword Key is a one-use item that opens an imp statue seal. The key is consumed when used, and some seals require more than one—so check the statue’s requirement before spending one.
What does a Stonesword Key do in Elden Ring?
It breaks an imp statue seal, granting access to the passage or area that seal blocks. The item description calls it “A sword-shaped stone key” and warns: “Think well before using one.” The item reference describes it as an access item, not a weapon or crafting ingredient.
Are Stonesword Keys consumed?
Yes. Each use permanently consumes the key used to break the seal; it does not remain available as a reusable key. A seal may require multiple keys. For example, the item reference lists a Siofra River seal that requires two.
How to decide whether to use one
- Inspect the imp statue seal. Check whether it is usable and how many keys it requires.
- Consider the cost. Confirm you have enough keys for that seal, especially if it requires two.
- Choose based on your goal. The opened seal may reveal a route or area. Known examples include Fringefolk Hero’s Grave, Weeping Evergaol, Summonwater Village’s cellar, Roundtable Hold, Siofra River, and Stormveil Castle. This is not a complete location list, and the available item reference does not establish a comprehensive ranking of rewards or which seal is the best use.
Where can you get Stonesword Keys?
They appear as loot and are sold by some merchants. The item reference gives examples involving Roundtable Hold, Murkwater Cave, Weeping Peninsula, and Siofra River, and also lists the Stonesword Key as a Keepsake choice. Availability and location details here follow that community item reference; it is not a complete inventory of every source.

Stonesword Keys in Elden Ring and Nightreign
The name is used in both games, but the described target differs. In Elden Ring, the key breaks imp statue seals. Bandai Namco’s Elden Ring Nightreign starter guide says, “A Stonesword Key is required to enter an Evergaol and battle its captive,” and notes that keys are found as treasure and sometimes sold by merchants. That Evergaol use applies to Nightreign; it is not the imp-seal instruction for the base game.

No. It is an in-game item. If you do not own Elden Ring, Bandai Namco’s official game page lists the game and its editions and platforms; check the current retailer listing for the edition and platform you want. Buying a physical copy does not provide a real-world Stonesword Key.
