Blizzard announced it would run every three hours for 30 minutes, with player kills earning event currency and rewards available from a merchant outside Gurubashi Arena. Those timings describe the Phase 2 announcement, not a confirmed live schedule: the sources available do not establish whether Blood Moon is active or when it runs on October 8, 2026.
How did the Phase 2 Blood Moon event work?
Blizzard introduced Blood Moon as a Stranglethorn Vale PvP event in its Phase 2 announcement. The announcement gave its schedule as “Every 3 Hours” and its duration as “30 minutes.” These are original Phase 2 details; they should not be treated as verified current timing.
During the event, players fought in open-world PvP and earned currency for player kills. You could group with allies, but Blizzard warned that raid groups would be punished. Unlike the Ashenvale event, Blood Moon had no PvP objectives to capture or complete; kills were the stated basis for earning currency.
A PvE danger inside the PvP event
Blizzard also warned of the Chosen of the Blood Loa, described as a dangerous force that would kill those in its path. That makes the event more than a player-versus-player encounter, but the Phase 2 announcement does not provide enough detail to establish specific encounter tactics.

When does STV Blood Moon start?
For Phase 2, Blizzard announced a start every three hours and a 30-minute duration. The announcement does not establish what time the event starts on a particular server clock or confirm that this schedule remains in effect today. Current operation and timing as of October 8, 2026 are not established by the sources cited here.
How could you opt out?
Blizzard said players who wanted to avoid Blood Moon could speak with a Zandalari Emissary. Opting out meant giving up Blood Moon event rewards, but it did not suspend the realm’s normal PvP rules: those still applied.

A later guide describes emissary locations and a protection buff, but those are later-phase details rather than part of the Phase 2 announcement. Do not assume they describe the original Phase 2 opt-out process.
What were the Phase 2 rewards?
Blizzard directed players to a merchant just outside Gurubashi Arena. The Phase 2 announcement named three reward categories:

Blizzard explicitly said Blood Moon would not have an associated world buff. The announcement does not enumerate every class item or its price, so a full item-and-cost list cannot be established from that source alone.
How did Blood Moon currencies and rewards change later?
Do not combine later currency names and vendor costs with the original Phase 2 reward system. Blizzard’s later patch notes and a Phase 6 guide describe different currencies and reward details:

The version 1.15.3 costs and the Phase 6 guide’s currency system are later than Phase 2 and are not Phase 2 prices or eligibility rules. The Phase 6 information comes from a third-party guide; Blizzard’s patch notes are the primary source for the version 1.15.3 details.

They do not verify whether the event is active or what its live schedule is on October 8, 2026. Check current in-game notices or current official Season of Discovery updates before planning around a particular start time.
