To brew a Potion of Strength in Minecraft, make an Awkward Potion with a water bottle and nether wart, then brew blaze powder into it. The brewing stand also needs blaze powder as fuel, so have enough for both jobs.

- Blaze powder for fuel and as the Strength ingredient
- A glass bottle and water
- Nether wart
Minecraft’s brewing-stand guide explains that blaze powder fuels the stand and that nether wart is used to make the Awkward Potion base for most useful potions.

How to brew a Potion of Strength
- Make a water bottle. Fill a glass bottle from a water source.
- Fuel the brewing stand. Add blaze powder to its fuel slot.
- Brew an Awkward Potion. Put the water bottle in a bottle slot and nether wart in the ingredient slot. When brewing finishes, the water bottle becomes an Awkward Potion.
- Brew Strength. Put the Awkward Potion back in a bottle slot and add blaze powder to the ingredient slot. The result is a Potion of Strength. Minecraft’s rare recipes guide identifies blaze powder as the Strength ingredient.
Choose duration or potency
After brewing Strength, you can add a modifier to the potion:
- Redstone dust extends the duration.
- Glowstone dust increases potency, producing Strength II.
The Minecraft Wiki’s community-maintained Strength reference lists these durations: standard Strength lasts 3:00, redstone-extended Strength lasts 8:00, and Strength II lasts 1:30. These are wiki-listed gameplay values, not figures stated in the official recipe guides; check your game version if an exact timer matters.

Make it splash or lingering
A regular potion is consumed to apply its effect. To change how it is delivered, brew gunpowder into the Potion of Strength to make a throwable splash potion. Then brew dragon’s breath into the splash potion to make it lingering. Minecraft’s splash-potion tutorial describes splash potions as useful when a target cannot or will not drink a potion.
