Subnautica 2 launched in Early Access on May 14, 2026, at 08:00 PDT (15:00 UTC). That date has passed: Unknown Worlds’ official site listed Early Access hotfix activity through October 6, 2026, so the game is already available as an evolving release, not an upcoming launch.
When did Subnautica 2 come out in Early Access?
Unknown Worlds announced April 30, 2026, that Subnautica 2 would enter Early Access on May 14, 2026, at 08:00 PDT / 15:00 UTC. The studio named Steam, Epic Games, and Xbox as storefronts for the launch. Unknown Worlds’ announcement gave a U.S. launch price of $29.99 USD and said prices are localized by region, so check the selected storefront for the price where you live.

Is Subnautica 2 already out?
Yes. As of October 8, 2026, Subnautica 2 is in Early Access. Unknown Worlds’ official news feed includes Buddy System hotfix activity through October 6, 2026. The official news feed is the best place to check for newer updates.

What platforms is Subnautica 2 on?
The announcement named Steam, Epic Games, and Xbox. Steam lists the May 14, 2026 release date and describes the game as an underwater survival adventure on an alien world, playable alone or in online co-op with up to three friends. The Steam listing says the Early Access build will grow through additional content and updates. Xbox Wire described the Xbox release as part of Game Preview and reported cross-platform play. What should players expect from Early Access?
Early Access is an unfinished version, and its content and features may change. Unknown Worlds’ Steam description identifies multiplayer, several biomes, some narrative, creatures, and craftables among the early version’s contents. The developer says updates will add content and improve the game, while warning that bugs and performance issues may occur.

Unknown Worlds does not give a firm date for the full release. Its Steam description estimates Early Access could last about two to three years based on the studio’s previous Early Access games, but explicitly cautions: “It is difficult to accurately predict how long Early Access will last.” Treat that range as an estimate, not a scheduled end date.
What is Subnautica 2 Experimental?
Xbox Wire reported that Subnautica 2 Experimental became available through the Xbox Insider Program on August 12, 2026. This is an in-development preview branch, so it may contain bugs or unfinished features. Xbox Wire says Experimental and Stable saves are kept separately, and players using different branches cannot play multiplayer together. The Experimental instructions described there are specific to Xbox Insider; they should not be assumed to apply to the Steam build.

The $29.99 USD figure was the launch price announced by Unknown Worlds, not a guarantee of the current price in every region or storefront. For a purchase, use the storefront listing for your region. For ongoing development news, consult Unknown Worlds’ official updates; its July 7, 2026 vlog previewed an Adaptive Measures update planned for July 8 and referred to later planned updates, which were plans at that time rather than guarantees of delivery.
