First, identify what kind of crash you are seeing
“Crashing” can describe several different failures, and the available reports do not establish one cause for all of them. Note what happens and when before changing settings:
- Before the menu: The game closes during launch or shows an error.
- During a match: The game exits after play has started.
- Freeze or return to library: Record whether the Deck becomes unresponsive or Steam simply shows the game page again.
- Mode-specific failure: Note whether it happens only in a lobby, multiplayer session, or particular situation.
Also note whether the problem began after a game or SteamOS update, whether it happens on every launch, and any error message shown. Those details help distinguish a startup failure from an in-game crash or a broader compatibility problem.
Try reversible general troubleshooting first

- Restart the Deck. Then try launching the game again and note whether the same failure returns.
- Check for updates. Make sure the game and SteamOS are up to date. If the crash began immediately after an update, include that timing when reporting it.
- Record your current compatibility setup. Before experimenting, note the SteamOS and Proton versions in use.
- Consult Valve’s compatibility settings guidance. Valve explains how to force a specific Steam Play compatibility tool for an individual game: Steam Deck software troubleshooting.
- If you try another Proton version, change only that setting. Test the result, then restore the original setting if it does not help. No particular Proton version is established as a Super Battle Golf crash fix.
Why the developer’s Windows crash steps are not a Steam Deck fix
The developer’s pinned support post, updated July 19, 2026, frames its issue as a Unity error on startup: “Has your game been crashing and giving you a Unity error on start-up?” Its suggestions are for Windows: deleting D3D12Core.dll from the game’s D3D12 folder, manually updating graphics drivers in some cases, and deleting config.json from the game’s LocalLow settings folder. See the developer’s pinned crash guidance.
Those instructions do not establish equivalent SteamOS paths or a Deck repair. Do not navigate to Windows-style paths or delete files from the Deck’s compatibility prefix based on that post alone. Replies in the same thread report mixed results: some players say the suggestions did not work, one describes a settings reset as only a partial fix, and another says the solution works only sometimes. These are individual reports, not proof of a reliable repair.

What the patch notes and Proton report actually establish
Hotfix #6 addresses limited crash cases
The official July 24, 2026 Hotfix #6 notes say the update fixed lobby hosts crashing when two rockets collide and “Possibly fixed a rare crash.” They do not identify a Steam Deck crash fix or say that general startup crashes are resolved.
The Proton issue is about a Linux PC, not a Deck crash
A Proton compatibility report opened June 3, 2026 describes severe lag and nearly broken multiplayer connectivity on a Linux PC with Proton 10.0-4 and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, compared with Proton 10.0-3. It does not report Steam Deck hardware or establish that Proton 10.0-3 fixes crashing. It is related compatibility context, not a Deck diagnosis.

When to report a persistent crash
If the game still exits or freezes, send Steam Support or the developer a concise report. Include:
- Your Steam Deck model and SteamOS and Proton versions, if available.
- Whether the failure happens at startup, during a match, or only in a particular mode.
- When it began and whether it followed a game or SteamOS update.
- The exact error message, if one appears, and logs if available.
- Any compatibility setting you changed and whether restoring it altered the result.
This information is more useful than applying Windows-only file changes or treating a Linux PC networking report as evidence of a Deck crash fix.
