Initial Capital led the round; the company described Roblox as its starting point while leaving open future expansion to other platforms.
Who invested in Supersocial’s seed round?
Initial Capital led the $5.2 million round. The announced participants included Griffin Gaming Partners, Warner Music Group, Marc Benioff’s TIME Ventures, LightShed Ventures, Powerhouse Capital, Aream & Co., and angel investors. The announcement did not state a company valuation or disclose individual investment amounts.
At the time, Initial Capital cofounder and board member Ken Lamb framed the investment around trends including user-generated content, social media, and multiplayer online worlds. His remarks appeared in the September 29, 2021 announcement and describe the investors’ view then, not a current assessment of the market.
What did Supersocial plan to build with the funding?
Roblox games and experiences
Supersocial presented itself as a developer and publisher of games and experiences for Roblox. CEO Yonatan “Yon” Raz-Fridman called Roblox an “era-defining platform,” highlighting its combination of a game engine, publishing and distribution, social networking, and cloud services. In the September 29, 2021 GamesBeat interview, he said Roblox was where the company would start, while expressing an intention to expand to other platforms in the future. That was a strategic ambition, not an announced date or confirmed expansion.

Supersocial Labs and creator support
The company also described Supersocial Labs, an effort to recruit aspiring Roblox developers and help them make games. Its planned support included capital, operating expertise, infrastructure, and development support, with games made in rapid cycles. The model paired the studio’s own publishing ambitions with a pipeline for helping creators develop projects on Roblox.
Ghostopia was an announced project, not a confirmed launch
Ghostopia was described in 2021 as an upcoming Roblox role-playing experience. That contemporary announcement establishes it as a project Supersocial planned at the time; it does not establish whether or when the game later launched.
