Nintendo Switch 2 set a U.S. record for video-game hardware sales in a launch month, selling 1.6 million units in June 2025, according to Circana data reported by GamesBeat. Separately, Nintendo said Switch 2 sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide in its first four days, a record for a Nintendo system. Circana also recorded a June high for U.S. video-game spending; neither record means every market or month reached an all-time high.
What sales record did Switch 2 set?
There are two distinct launch records, measured in different places and over different periods:

- Worldwide, first four days: Nintendo announced that Switch 2 sold more than 3.5 million units globally in the first four days after its June 5, 2025 launch—the highest first-four-day sales for a Nintendo system. Nintendo’s announcement.
- United States, launch month: Circana tracked 1.6 million Switch 2 units sold during June 2025, the highest launch-month unit sales for video-game hardware in U.S. history at the time. Circana executive Mat Piscatella said the previous high was 1.1 million PlayStation 4 units in November 2013. GamesBeat’s report of Circana’s June data.
So “fastest-selling console in U.S. history” is too broad unless it specifies the measure. The supported claim is a record for launch-month U.S. hardware unit sales, not a claim that Switch 2 has outsold every console over all time or that its worldwide first-four-day record is a U.S. figure.
Did gaming spending hit an all-time high?
In the United States, total video-game spending reached $5.699 billion in June 2025, up 22% year over year and a record for that month, Circana reported. The same report put hardware spending at $978 million, up 249%, and accessories at $293 million, up 29%. These are U.S. June figures, not an all-time high across every month or country. The launch-month surge also needs a timeframe: through June, year-to-date U.S. video-game spending in the reported dataset was still 2% below the comparable period in 2024. A record June therefore describes a particularly strong month, not necessarily growth for the whole year.
How do the launch records compare with later sales?
Launch records describe a moment, while later reports show how the market is changing. Circana’s July 2026 U.S. snapshot reported $4.5 billion in video-game spending, down 10% year over year. Hardware spending was $282 million, down 29%, and Switch 2 unit sales were down 51% compared with July 2025. Circana also said that after 14 months on the market, Switch 2 was 11% ahead of the original Switch’s sales pace over the same period after launch. Those comparisons use different measures and do not erase the earlier launch-month record. Circana’s July 2026 U.S. market report.

How many Switch 2 consoles has Nintendo sold?
Nintendo reported cumulative Switch 2 hardware sales of 23.68 million units as of June 30, 2026, alongside 58.17 million software units. These are Nintendo’s company-reported worldwide figures, not Circana’s U.S. market tracking or a June-only sales total. Nintendo’s hardware and software sales data.

The sales figures establish how strongly the console launched; they do not determine whether it is the right purchase for an individual. Nintendo listed U.S. launch-period suggested retail prices of $449.99 for the console and $499.99 for a bundle with Mario Kart World. Those are historical launch MSRPs, not current prices. Current pricing and availability are not established here. Nintendo’s launch announcement.
