Nintendo set April 24, 2025, as the new start date for U.S. retail preorders of Nintendo Switch 2, replacing the originally planned April 9 date. The console’s planned June 5 launch was unchanged.
When did Switch 2 preorders start in the U.S.?
Nintendo announced on April 18, 2025, that U.S. retail preorders would begin April 24. That revised date has passed; the announcement does not establish current stock, retailer availability, or prices. Nintendo’s April 18 announcement also said the company hoped the update would reduce customer uncertainty.

Why was the preorder date changed?
Nintendo had originally planned to open U.S. preorders on April 9. On April 4, it said preorders would not begin on that date so it could assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. That was Nintendo’s stated rationale; it does not establish the relative weight of factors in the company’s internal decision-making. Tom’s Hardware reported Nintendo’s April 4 statement.
Did the Switch 2 launch date also change?
No. Nintendo said the planned June 5, 2025 launch date remained unchanged when it announced the preorder delay. The preorder opening and console launch were separate dates: April 24 was the revised U.S. retail preorder date, while June 5 was the planned launch date.

Did Nintendo change Switch 2 prices?
Nintendo’s April 18 update said console and game prices were maintained, while certain accessories were subject to price adjustments. So the update did not mean every Switch 2-related price stayed the same.
