Costco Canada briefly appeared to let shoppers add Nintendo Switch 2 consoles to cart and attempt checkout before Nintendo’s announced Canadian preorder date. The opportunity was unreliable: a contemporaneous report said the standalone console did not seem to work for the reporter, while the Mario Kart World bundle advanced through checkout; later that evening, shoppers reported errors and both options may have sold out.
What happened at Costco Canada?
On April 24, 2025, MobileSyrup reported that Costco Canada search results briefly exposed Switch 2 listings with an option to add them to cart before Nintendo’s official Canadian retail preorder start. This was an apparent early checkout opening—not a dependable preorder window announced by Costco or Nintendo. The report did not establish how long the opportunity lasted, how many orders succeeded, or whether every attempted order was fulfilled. MobileSyrup’s contemporaneous report was updated at 11:01 p.m. ET / 8:01 p.m. PT to note reports of checkout errors and that both consoles might be sold out.

Standalone console and bundle behaved differently
In the reporter’s checkout attempt, the standalone console did not seem to work, while the Mario Kart World bundle let them proceed through checkout. Proceeding to checkout is not proof that an order was confirmed. For any early listing, the meaningful distinction is whether checkout completed and Costco issued an order confirmation—not whether a product appeared in search results or entered a cart.
What was Nintendo’s official Canadian preorder schedule?
Nintendo of Canada announced on April 18, 2025, that retail preorders would begin April 24 and that Switch 2 would launch June 5, 2025. The Costco reports described an apparent opening before the announced preorder start, not a change to Nintendo’s schedule. Nintendo’s Canadian announcement said: “We apologize for the retail pre-order delay. We thank our customers for their patience, and we share their excitement to experience Nintendo Switch 2 starting June 5, 2025.”

How did the Costco checkout compare with the Canadian MSRP?
Nintendo of Canada’s prices announced April 18, 2025, provide the relevant comparison for that historical preorder event:
| Option | Canadian MSRP announced April 18, 2025 | What the Costco report established |
|---|---|---|
| Switch 2 standalone console | $629.99 | The reporter said it did not seem to work in their checkout attempt. |
| Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle | $699.99 | The reporter could proceed through checkout, but the report did not establish a confirmed order for every shopper. |
Those are Nintendo’s announced Canadian MSRPs for 2025, not a statement of Costco’s current price or availability. The article documented a checkout attempt and subsequent error reports; it did not establish a guaranteed Costco order. Nintendo’s announcement contains the date and price details.

How to assess an early or current listing
- Look for an order confirmation. A listing, cart entry, or checkout screen alone does not show that a purchase was accepted.
- Check what is included. Distinguish the console by itself from a bundle, and compare the included items with the listed price.
- Compare like with like. For the April 2025 event, Nintendo’s announced Canadian MSRPs were $629.99 for the standalone console and $699.99 for the Mario Kart World bundle.
- Verify live terms before paying. Check stock, price, shipping, region restrictions, and bundle contents on the retailer’s own page; dynamic listings can change.
