Neon Giant has acknowledged bugs affecting The Ascent and announced a Legacy Patch scheduled for November 18, 2026 (PT). But its announcement does not identify a Codex bug or promise a Codex-specific fix. The nearby “smarter Codex” reference is for a different game, Welcome Demon.
Did Neon Giant acknowledge a Codex bug in The Ascent?
Not in the official announcement reviewed. In July 2026, Neon Giant apologized for bugs that had disrupted some players’ experience and said it was preparing fixes. The post did not name a Codex problem, describe a Codex symptom, or connect any planned fix to Codex entries. Neon Giant’s announcement
That distinction matters because an official mention of “a smarter Codex” appears in a separate post about the Welcome Demon demo. It is not an update for The Ascent. The separate Welcome Demon post
Older community posts include individual reports about filling the enemy Codex and completing the game, but those reports do not establish a developer acknowledgment or a fix in the 2026 patch. The available official announcement also does not specify affected platforms or provide reproduction steps for a Codex issue.

What does The Ascent Legacy Patch plan to fix?
Neon Giant’s July 2026 announcement lists broad issue categories rather than a Codex-specific remedy:
- Co-op teleporting
- The encounter system
- Save games and player progression
- HDR implementation
- Key localization improvements
The studio did not map specific player reports to these categories in the announcement, so it is not possible to say whether any one category covers a particular Codex complaint. Neon Giant described the game as its foundation and said it intended to fix it before expanding into new platforms, genres, and future sequels.

When is the patch coming, and is it available now?
The official Steam feed lists November 18, 2026 (PT) as the scheduled date for The Ascent Legacy Patch. That date is still in the future as of October 8, 2026, so the patch has not yet been shown as released by the cited announcement. A scheduled date is a plan, not confirmation of delivery. The announcement does not establish a Codex fix, the platforms or versions that will receive one, or whether a later patch note will address the reported Codex symptoms. Readers looking specifically for a Codex remedy should wait for release notes that name the issue rather than assume it is included in the broad patch scope.

How this differs from an older The Ascent graphics issue
A separate 2021 report concerned the PC Game Pass version reportedly lacking DLSS and working ray tracing available in the Steam version. Neowin quoted Neon Giant co-founder Tor Frick discussing work with partners to address that graphics-feature parity issue. It is unrelated to the 2026 Codex claim. Neowin’s 2021 report
