As of October 8, 2026, EA has not announced a release date for a game officially titled The Sims 5. EA says Project Rene is a separate, mobile-first social game—not the successor to The Sims 4—while single-player Sims experiences remain part of the franchise’s future.
Has EA announced a release date for The Sims 5?
No release date or launch window for a game officially titled The Sims 5 appears in the current official EA information covered here. EA’s January 9, 2026 franchise update discusses the future of the series, but does not name a forthcoming single-player game, give it a release date, or confirm its platforms. That means there is no confirmed year to report. Any specific date or window for The Sims 5 should be treated as speculation unless EA announces it.
Is Project Rene The Sims 5?
No. EA’s current description says Project Rene “has evolved into a social, collaborative, mobile-first life-sim game.” EA also says it “is not the successor to The Sims 4” and is separate from any future deep, single-player life simulation experience. EA’s January 2026 update is the clearest current statement of the project’s role.

EA’s earlier Behind The Sims Summit FAQ called Project Rene “the next generation of The Sims” and described it as being in very early development. That was earlier framing, not a release-date announcement; the newer update clarifies that Project Rene is a distinct experience. Read the Summit FAQ.
What has EA said about future single-player Sims games?
EA says single-player PC and console experiences remain part of The Sims franchise’s future. It has not, in the cited update, identified a specific game as The Sims 5, confirmed that title, or announced which platforms that possible game will support. The franchise direction is not itself a product announcement or a launch window.

EA had already said in its 2024 franchise update that it was moving beyond “linear, sequential Sims releases” toward a family of games and experiences. That context is one reason not to assume every future Sims project will be a numbered sequel. Read EA’s 2024 franchise update.
