The Reaper is a 10-rank active career included with The Sims 4: Life & Death. Travel to work with your Sim, follow the Scored Career Event objectives, and meet the rank-specific skill and soul-release requirements to advance from Grimtern to Reaper. The guide below lists every rank, daily pay, promotion requirement, and reward, plus how to write the Reaping Manual and use the promotion cheat.
How to join and play the Reaper career
The Reaper career requires The Sims 4: Life & Death. It is an active career, so you can accompany your Sim to work and take part in the duties rather than sending them away to work off-screen. EA’s Reaper career guide identifies it as an active career, and EA’s Life & Death announcement describes the pack as adding the Reaper Profession and Undertaker Career.

- Find a job from the phone by selecting Business > Find a Job, from a computer with Career > Find a Job, or from the Career panel (briefcase icon) in Live Mode. These are the job-search routes listed in EA’s careers guide.
- Choose the Reaper career and attend the scheduled workday.
- During a shift, open the Scored Career Event Panel using the briefcase icon at the lower right. It shows the objectives for your Sim’s current rank; follow the event objectives displayed at the upper left while at work. EA notes that tasks change by rank, so use the in-game panel as the current guide.

#1 Best Overall
- Wonder at treasures that have endured time’s passing, witnessing the comeand go of generations with ghastly grace.
- Build your Bucket List by collecting goals throughout your Sim’s life, startingas a Young Adult. Items will appear on your list based on your Sim’s traits andfamily relations, and you can also choose your own.
- Make death your life’s work with a career of reaping souls, helping Ghosts, dispersing hauntings, and more as a member of Grim’s team. Or, you couldbecome a Mortician and deal with death more from the perspective of theliving.
- The veil between life and death is thin in Ravenwood. Visit the countryside and perhaps take a swim by the mysterious face in the cliffs. Or, head into the village where you’ll find some odd goods forpurchase near the old Specter cemetery.
Which skills and tasks to prioritize
Build Thanatology early
Thanatology is a five-level skill and is required at ranks 2, 3, 5, and 7. EA says it can be developed through career progression, social interactions, computer research, and skill books. Skill-building classes are another option for players who own Discover University. See EA’s Thanatology skill guide for the listed methods.
Plan for Fitness and Charisma thresholds
Fitness and Charisma become promotion requirements at ranks 4, 6, and 8. The targets are Fitness 2 and Charisma 3 for Collections Agent, Charisma 4 for Spirit Expert, then Fitness 4 and Charisma 5 for D.N.R. Starting these skills before reaching those ranks can reduce waiting once the requirement appears.
Rank #2
- An Endless Journey — Build your Bucket List by collecting goals throughout your Sim’s life, starting as a Young Adult.
- A Ghastly, Gorgeous Life — Make death your life’s work with a career as a member of Grim’s team.
- Goodbye (For Now) — Different Sims will grieve in different ways. There are 4 types that will tie in with both Sims’ personalities and their relationships with the deceased.
- Friendly or Fiendish? — Linger on as a Ghost and spend your afterlife helping or terrorizing the living.
- A Town Worth Haunting — The veil between life and death is thin in Ravenwood, a three-neighborhood town.
Track released souls through the career objectives
The career table requires 3 released souls for rank 3, 5 for rank 5, and 10 for rank 9. Follow the Reaper event objectives and the relevant interaction prompts at work. EA’s career page gives the totals but does not provide a complete walkthrough of each soul-release interaction, so the in-game prompts are the practical instructions for the event you encounter.
How to write the Reaping Manual
At rank 6, use a computer and select Write > Write Genre Book > Reapers Creepers: Training Manual Installment. EA lists writing the Reaping Manual as the Spirit Expert promotion requirement and names this computer interaction in its Reaper career guide.

Career rewards and the promotion cheat
The standout unlocks in EA’s rank table are the Grim Timeless Hourglass at rank 8 and Grim’s Right Hand Reward Trait at rank 10. The table also lists Simoleon rewards and Create a Sim items at certain ranks; consult the rank list above for the corresponding entries.
EA documents the cheat careers.promote active_reaper to advance a Sim one Reaper rank. Enable testing cheats first, then enter the promotion cheat; repeat it to advance further. This skips one rank per use rather than completing a multi-rank promotion in a single command. For normal progression, use the Career panel for requirements and daily tasks, and the Scored Career Event Panel for the active shift’s objectives.
