Path of Exile microtransactions (MTX) include both visual items—such as armour sets, portal effects, and finishers—and practical account features such as stash tabs. For PoE1 items in PoE2, compatibility is item-specific: past announcements document selected items and tabs, not a guarantee that every purchase works in both games. Check the current listing or in-game cosmetics interface before buying.
What does MTX mean in Path of Exile?
MTX is shorthand for microtransactions: items and features available through the game’s microtransaction shop. The term covers several kinds of purchases, so it is not accurate to describe every MTX as a skin or purely cosmetic.
- Cosmetics and effects change presentation. Examples in Grinding Gear Games (GGG) announcements include armour sets, portal effects, and unique finisher effects.
- Supporter-pack content bundles or groups of items. Availability can depend on the specific pack and game; the name of a pack alone does not establish compatibility for every item in it.
- Stash tabs provide storage and organization for particular item categories. Their function differs from a visual effect or armour cosmetic.
These are different uses of the same shop category. When comparing purchases, consider what an item does as well as how it looks.
Which PoE1 MTX work in PoE2?
There is no blanket compatibility promise in the cited official announcements. In a December 15, 2024 forum response quoting the Early Access FAQ, a GGG staff member said many recent PoE1 microtransactions and all stash tabs would initially be available in PoE2, while the team worked through a larger legacy backlog. That was guidance for the Early Access period, not a complete or current catalog: GGG’s Early Access MTX response.

Later announcements show specific additions, not universal support. On July 11, 2025, GGG said the following named Secrets of the Atlas items were available in PoE2:
- Watcher’s Wrath Armour Set
- Archon of the Atlas Armor Set
- Skull of Undeath
- Syndicate’s Demise Unique Finisher Effect
- The Originator’s Portal Effect
- Rose Charges
The same announcement named the Phrecian Magistrate and Cryptkeeper Mercenaries Supporter Pack series. GGG stated that owners of either series in PoE1 would have those microtransactions available in PoE2. This ownership rule applies to the named series; it should not be generalized to unrelated packs or every PoE1 MTX. See GGG’s July 11, 2025 PoE2 availability announcement.

What do stash tabs do?
Tabs organize storage around item types or collection needs. Their functionality can differ from one tab to another, and the available categories can change as the games develop. As a dated example, Path of Exile 2 patch 0.2.0h introduced Ritual and Socketables stash tabs to the store and added Charm storage to the Flask tab. Those notes document the changes in that patch; use current game information to confirm present behavior: GGG’s 0.2.0h patch notes.
When evaluating a tab, check which items it holds and whether that storage is relevant to the game you play. A tab’s name or its availability in one game does not, by itself, establish its current behavior in the other.

How to check compatibility before buying
- Identify the exact item. Note whether you are considering a standalone cosmetic, a supporter-pack series, or a stash tab; compatibility evidence for one category does not automatically apply to another.
- Check the game you intend to play. Look at the current item listing or cosmetics and stash interfaces for PoE1 or PoE2 rather than relying on a general statement about MTX.
- Compare the listing with official announcements. Treat dated announcements as evidence for the items they name and the date they describe. The July 2025 examples above are not a complete live compatibility catalog.
- Confirm what the purchase includes. For a supporter pack, verify the specific series and included items. For a stash tab, check its storage function and the game in which you need it.
- Do not infer account or platform transfer rules. The announcements cited here do not establish every account, platform, or transfer scenario. If that detail affects your decision, consult the current official listing or support information before purchasing.
When do Path of Exile MTX and stash tabs go on sale?
GGG staff recommended putting shop items on the official website’s watchlist to receive a notification when an item goes on sale. In a November 11, 2023 forum reply, staff member ThomasK_GGG also said GGG could not speculate on upcoming sales. The guidance is useful for tracking an item, but it does not promise a fixed schedule or a particular discount: GGG’s sale and watchlist reply.
A July 31, 2025 post advertised a stash-tab sale and a free mystery box with a points purchase. Both were part of that past promotion and are not live offers. Its nine-tab compatibility list is useful as a dated snapshot, not as evidence that a sale is currently running: the expired promotion announcement.

How should you compare MTX options?
There is no single value ranking that fits every player. The official announcements cited here establish examples of item types, selected compatibility, and past sale guidance; they do not provide a comprehensive current price comparison or evidence for a universal best purchase. Use the live shop to compare the actual listed price and contents, then weigh them against what you want from the item.
Quick Recap
- Purpose: Decide whether you want a visual change or specialized storage and organization.
- Compatibility: Verify the exact item for the game you play, using current information rather than assuming PoE1 and PoE2 are interchangeable.
- Contents: For a pack, check the named series and included items; for a tab, check its storage category and function.
- Timing: Use the shop watchlist for sale notifications instead of relying on a predicted sale date.
- Personal usefulness: Compare current listings and decide whether the item serves your own play habits; the cited sources do not establish a general value-for-money verdict.
