Feed the Deep is a Lovecraftian deep-sea roguelike from Luke Muscat, the designer behind Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride. It launched on Steam on August 16, 2024, and is also listed for iPhone, iPad, and Mac in the US App Store.

What is Feed the Deep?

Feed the Deep is a single-player roguelike about exploring procedurally generated underwater caves. Players collect resources to obtain upgrades and items while managing darkness and limited oxygen, then work toward completing a mission to feed a creature lurking in the deep. The description and current platform listings are available on Steam and the US App Store.

Who made it, and what inspired it?

Luke Muscat developed and published the Steam version. Muscat previously designed Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride. In the Steam description, he says, “Feed the Deep was built almost entirely by me, Luke Muscat.”

Muscat names Dome Keeper and Spelunky as inspirations, alongside his own ideas and twists. That is a description of influence, not a claim that the games play identically. The July 2024 announcement described the project as a “Lovecraftian deep sea roguelike”; the game has since launched. Engadget covered the announcement on July 12, 2024.
