Escape from Tarkov: The Unheard Edition was a new edition Battlestate Games announced in April 2024, with persistent-progression cooperative PvE at its center. Its reveal also advertised stash and account benefits, but the launch-era dispute was about more than features: players objected to the reported $250 price and the initial limits on PvE access.
What is The Unheard Edition?
The Unheard Edition is a distinct Escape from Tarkov edition announced by Battlestate Games. The official trailer, published April 25, 2024, introduced it as including cooperative PvE mode with persistent progression. Its description stated: “Progression will not be reset with wipes.” Battlestate Games’ official trailer
That promise refers to the advertised PvE progression, not a general claim that all Tarkov progress or modes are exempt from wipes.
What benefits were advertised at the reveal?
The official trailer description highlighted PvE access, a 10×72 stash, a unique in-game ID, and an armband. Reveal coverage also reported additional account and gameplay advantages. Those reports describe the package announced in 2024; they do not establish that every benefit applies to every current purchase route or upgrade.

Insider Gaming’s contemporaneous coverage listed a special nickname color and icon, longer periods to collect insurance returns and in-game rewards, better standing with Fence, more Flea Market slots, and access to the Early Test Server. Insider Gaming’s reveal coverage
Why were players upset about The Unheard Edition?
GameSpot’s contemporaneous report described backlash over the edition’s reported $250 price and the initial restriction of PvE access. The access dispute particularly affected players who had bought the Edge of Darkness edition. GameSpot also reported that Battlestate subsequently changed its planned access. The $250 figure is historical reveal-era reporting, not a verified current price. GameSpot’s report on the backlash and response
The controversy therefore involved both the cost of a new edition and whether existing owners should receive access to its prominent PvE feature. The reveal coverage is useful for understanding that dispute, but it is not documentation of current entitlements for every edition or purchase path.
