There is no single best weapon in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. For dependable melee damage, consider the Scimitar of the Seven with a strong Fuse material; for a higher-damage setup, use a Zora weapon while wet; and for a short burst, save Royal Guard weapons for when they are close to breaking. The Savage Lynel Bow is a standout ranged option, while fused tools can be better than a high-damage weapon for breaking barriers or applying an elemental effect.
How to choose a weapon in Tears of the Kingdom
Judge a weapon by more than its displayed attack value. Consider its damage potential, durability, the effort required to activate a special effect, its range, how useful it is outside direct combat, and how easily you can obtain a replacement. A weapon with a conditional bonus may be powerful in the right moment but less convenient for routine fights.
Fuse is central to that decision. Nintendo’s official The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom — Beginning Your Journey guide says, “Fusing materials to your weapons can make them more powerful, in addition to producing a wide variety of beneficial combat effects.” It also advises attaching a normal or large boulder to a brittle weapon to raise its damage potential and durability, while cautioning that not every material adds durability. Read Nintendo’s Fuse guidance.
Best weapon for regular melee: Scimitar of the Seven
The Scimitar of the Seven is a strong general-purpose melee candidate because its ability increases the attack contribution of a fused material. GameWith gives a Silver Lynel material as an example of a high-damage pairing. Unlike the Royal Guard weapon perk, this recommendation does not depend on the weapon nearing its breaking point.

GameWith says the Scimitar of the Seven is obtained through a Gerudo Town side quest and requires materials including a Gerudo Scimitar, a shield, flint, and diamonds. That makes it a worthwhile target if you want a powerful melee weapon, but its acquisition has more steps than simply picking up a weapon in the field. See GameWith’s Scimitar of the Seven guide.
Best conditional damage: Zora weapons while wet
Nintendo Life and GameWith describe Zora weapons as doubling their attack when wet; GameWith says the bonus also applies to the fused material’s contribution. This can make a Zora weapon exceptionally potent, but the boost is conditional, not a permanent property of every swing. You need a reliable way to get wet and to maintain that state during combat.
Choose this route when you are willing to manage the condition. If you prefer a weapon that works without setup, a Zora weapon may be less convenient despite its potential damage. GameWith’s weapon guide and Nintendo Life’s weapon guide discuss the wet-condition bonus.

- Ultrahand: Using the new Ultrahand ability, Link can pick up, move, and rotate almost any object, and can even attach objects together to create bridges, vehicles, and more!
- Fuse: Magically fuse almost any object to Link’s current weapon, shield, or arrow to increase durability, damage, or even add a new effect. Experiment with lots of different combinations to come up with surprising—and sometimes hilarious—results!
- Ascend: Add a new dimension to your exploration with Ascend, which gives Link the ability to pass through solid objects above him. Rise up through ceilings, hillsides, and even certain enemies to create seemingly impossible shortcuts.
- Recall: Use Recall to make objects in motion move backward through time, letting Link ride fallen boulders skyward, recover thrown weapons, or send projectiles back where they came from.
Best burst weapon: Royal Guard’s Claymore and other Royal Guard weapons
Royal Guard weapons trade durability for a damage increase as they approach breaking. That makes them better suited to deliberate burst damage than to ordinary, repeated swings. The bonus is tied to weapon condition, so using one as a routine melee option can consume its limited durability before you get the payoff you wanted.
GameSpot notes that the near-break perk affects fused material too, and describes mounted attacks against Lynels as one way to take advantage of it without ordinary weapon degradation. Exact damage depends on the specific weapon, fused item, and condition; figures from different guides should not be treated as one universal total. Read GameSpot’s weapons and armor guide. Nintendo Life and GameWith also cover Royal Guard weapon tradeoffs: Nintendo Life and GameWith.
Best bows: match the bow to the shot you need
For multi-arrow attacks, the Savage Lynel Bow is a standout. Nintendo Life recommends it for its multiple-arrow shots; GameSpot says it fires three arrows by default and that some variants fire five. That makes it useful when you want to deliver several shots at once, though its role is different from a bow chosen for range or a particular damage condition.

- Savage Lynel Bow: multi-arrow fire for concentrated ranged attacks; GameSpot distinguishes the default three-arrow version from some five-arrow variants.
- Royal Guard’s Bow: high base attack, but poor durability, according to GameSpot. It suits a short, high-impact use better than prolonged firing.
- Demon King’s Bow: GameSpot says its power scales with Link’s current hearts, so its output depends on your health.
- Dusk Bow: GameSpot highlights its extra range and ability to respawn, making it a useful ranged option when repeat access matters.
These bows solve different problems: arrow volume, immediate power, health-dependent damage, or range and repeat access. The best choice depends on whether you need a quick volley, a high-impact shot, or the ability to engage from farther away. GameSpot’s guide covers these bow tradeoffs; Nintendo Life also recommends the Savage Lynel Bow.
Best weapons for utility: Fuse for the task
Some of the most useful weapon choices are tools for a specific obstacle rather than direct competitors in a damage ranking. Nintendo says Fuse can create combat effects and help with tasks such as shattering walls or setting objects on fire. Fuse also works with shields and bows, not just melee weapons. Its guide recommends trying different materials because they do not all affect durability in the same way.

Where the Master Sword fits
The Master Sword is a flexible option: Nintendo Life says it can be fused, and GameSpot notes that it can fire a beam when Link has full hearts. Those traits give it both a melee role and a ranged option under the stated condition. The cited guides do not establish a precise durability description here, so it should not be described as literally unbreakable.
Nintendo Life’s weapon recommendations and GameSpot’s guide cover the Master Sword’s flexibility and beam.
