The Tibia Mariner is an optional field boss in Elden Ring. It can teleport around its arena and summon skeletons, so the main challenge is often keeping pressure on the Mariner without getting surrounded. Stay mounted if you need to chase it, use short attack windows, and retreat when it raises its boat for a broad wave.
Where to find Tibia Mariner
Tibia Mariner appears at multiple locations in the base game, across Limgrave, Liurnia of the Lakes, Altus Plateau, the Mountaintops of the Giants, and Charo’s Hidden Grave. A community-maintained tracker lists six encounters, but its rendered location grouping does not make every route unambiguous. Check the map and nearby Sites of Grace for the specific encounter you are seeking rather than assuming one location’s directions apply to all of them. How to beat Tibia Mariner
Treat the fight as a moving target with two sources of pressure: the Mariner’s boat attacks and the skeletons it summons. The boss may teleport away while its minions keep you occupied, so clear enough space to move and avoid committing to long attack strings.
Stay mobile and close distance carefully
Remaining on Torrent can make it easier to pursue the Mariner after it relocates. Use brief approaches to land a hit or two, then move out before its next attack. If fighting on foot, look for openings at its side or rear and be ready to reposition when it turns toward you. These are guide recommendations, not guarantees that any particular build or approach will work in every arena.

Back away from the broad wave
Watch for the Mariner raising its boat before a wide wave attack. When you see that wind-up, disengage and create distance rather than trying to trade hits. Its other listed attacks include boat slams, horn swings, and water splashes; keep moving when it changes position so you are not caught by an attack aimed at your previous spot. The tracker’s attack list and combat notes describe these patterns.
Keep skeletons from pinning you down
Summoned skeletons can make it dangerous to focus only on the boss. Avoid letting several close in at once; use movement to separate them or clear a path before returning to the Mariner. If you are repeatedly interrupted, prioritize space and survival over chasing every teleport immediately.
Damage and build considerations
Game8’s guide excerpt identifies strike and holy damage as effective against Tibia Mariner. The tracker also shows negative strike and holy negation values, but those figures should not be treated as universal damage multipliers: the encounter and game version are not specified in the excerpt. If you already have a suitable weapon or spell, those damage types are reasonable options; the fight’s movement and summons still matter more than changing an entire build around a secondary-source figure. Rewards depend on the encounter
Tibia Mariner does not have one reward package shared across every location. The tracker associates different encounters with rewards including Deathroot, Skeletal Militiaman Ashes, Skeletal Bandit Ashes, Tibia’s Summons, Tibia’s Cookbook, and Helphen’s Steeple. Check the entry for the specific arena you defeated; do not assume a reward listed for another Mariner will drop here. The encounter tracker groups rewards by location.

Rune figures also vary by encounter. Search-result excerpts report 2,400 runes for Summonwater Village, 3,525 for Liurnia, and 14,000 for Wyndham Ruins, but those values could not be verified in the underlying guide page. They are not a reliable universal payout, so check the reward shown for your specific encounter in-game.
Is the Nightreign Tibia Mariner the same fight?
No. Elden Ring Nightreign has Tibia Mariners as returning Night Bosses, with encounters in rivers and lakes and mechanics that include skeletons, teleporting, and boat or wave attacks.
